Bombardier "Bizjet Backlog Bursting At The Seams"

Looks like the corporate-Jet market is Bombardier's bread and butter... (As if we didn't know that already).. The waiting list for a Global is 44 months at present. Not as good as Gulfstream's 650 waiting list, which stands at 5 years at present, but still good


"Bombardier Business Aircraft saw a “remarkable level” of order intake last year, logging net orders for 343 aircraft versus 191 in 2011, the Canadian aircraft manufacturer reported today. This 43-percent gain does not include firm orders from VistaJet for 56 Globals worth $3.1 billion and from NetJets for 100 Challengers worth $2.6 billion."

Well they must have plenty of spare staff on the Q400 and CRJ (especially) programmes to help reduce this waiting list...
it's the bus to stansted (now renamed National Express a6 to ruin my username)

True, and Gulfstream won't let you sell a slot either from what I recall. If you need a Gulfstream soon, you'll have to find a used one, otherwise look for other options.
Why do Aerospace Engineering students have to turn things in on time?

makes you wonder why they even bother with the regional jet market

For a few years those markets made great money and put the Bombardier name front and center.

The C-series is doing well too, 180 orders now. That has helped put Bombardier's name front and center with a number of vendors. In many ways, the #1 benefit of Bombardier making bigger jets has been to get their foot in the door ahead of Embraer at a number of vendors. It has also given Bombardier a supply base for 'larger scale' parts.

Russia's llyusin Finance company orders 32 CSeries aircraft

"Russia’s Ilyushin Finance Co. (IFC) leasing company has ordered 32 Bombardier CS300 aircraft, plus 10 options. The order is valued at approximately $2.56 billion at list prices. If the options are exercised, the contract would be valued at approximately $3.42 billion. The transaction, which follows a letter of intent signed by IFC in 2011, must be approved by company shareholders."

This Bombardier total is why they stay in RJs/big jets. The C-series will be at the production rate in a few years. Yes, I just made an assumption on sales that I think is safe.

I have noticed the Europeans have been buying more and more Globals for the longhaul needs. They used to go after the G-IVs and G-Vs, but not anymore, now it seems the Global express is proving quite popular in Europe..

I wonder if the fact that Bombardier manufactures some aircraft in Europe has something to do with it??

All BBD final assembly lines are in Canada & US.

BBD aerospace doesn't manufacture aircraft in Europe, but wings and components in Belfast. I doubt it has anything to do with their ability to sell bizjets as these are mostly bought by rich individuals or private corporation that don't have political insensitive. Its not like a state-owned airline that might buy from BBD or EMB depending on political factors.

True, but they sell mostly entry-level super-light or light jets (Phenoms) that don't provide the same return than long range large cabins (i.e. Globals). I'm sure a single Global 5000 sales brings in more profit than 10 Phenoms..

The early Global builds had many teething issues, particularly with cabin systems, and earned a reputation as unreliable compared with the G V. Early Global cabin systems were a patch-work of components. The issues have been worked out with the help of integrated cabin system design. Other design issues have been addressed and the Global's as reliable now as the other brands...have been for many years.

Of course the competition still talks about Global as though the last 300+ planes off the line are the same as the first 100 which is not the case. and of course, never is. I think Bombardier has proven they can build a reliable competitor to the G- V/550 and with a much bigger cabin than the Gulfstream the Global brand seems a more attractive option now.

Just my theory as to why Globals have become more popular in Europe. More common here in the US too lately.

They do the same with all planes. We saw that with the DC-10, A300, A320, MD-11, and I'm sure a dozen others I don't recall right now.

But... don't forget those guys in São José dos Campos are hard at work getting the Legacy 450/500 project fully developed and certified as quickly as possible. These two models compete directly with Cessna and BBD's bread-and-butter mid-size models. The Legacy 500 is already in flight trials and is expected to receive certification by year-end.

Any guess what these models will do to the mid-range corporate jet market?
