HA Announces Taipei Flight Schedule

Wed Feb 27, 2013 2:01 am

HA announced it's schedule for it's new HNL-TPE-HNL nonstop service that will commence in July.

Beginning July 9, Hawaiian Flight HA 807 will depart Honolulu International Airport at 1:55 a.m. on Sundays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays, cross the international dateline, and land at Taipei International Airport at 6:15 a.m. the following day.
Beginning July 10, the return Flight HA 808 will depart Taipei at 8:55 p.m. on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, cross the international dateline, and arrive in Honolulu at 1:10 p.m. the same day.

I can't recall HA ever having any scheduled flights leaving HNL at this time of the day. It's also interesting to note that the aircraft will remain on the ground in TPE for 14 hours and 40 minutes, before returning back to HNL.

HA will operate the new flight with it's new 294 seat A330-200 aircraft.

Time for EGAS or CI to perform maintenance tasks?

With this length of ground time, I guess the same crew will be on the in- and out-bound flights.

Timing is awful for spotting though! Might be able to get early-morning shots during the summer, but that will be touch-and-go. Any idea who will be doing the ground handling?

China AIrlines has an equally odd schedule to HNL on their new nonstop flights so I'm guessing this is slot or airport infastructure driven. The good news is that the arrival time will allow for any onward journies from TPE and the departure time from TPE back to HNL allows for a full day in TPE and inbound connections. Unfortunately the arrival and departure times in HNL aren't that great for connections. Though, since HA is offering free stop overs in HNL, it may not matter.

The ground time for the airplane will not allow for enough pilot rest, but it's likely enough for FA rest unfortunately. The other interesting thing is the selection of flight numbers. The choice of 807 and 808 is significant in the sense that 8 is a lucky number and the traditional 4xx flight numbers for HA's international flights may be seen as bad luck, as they use the number 4. Also, 808 is the area code for Hawaii.

Actually, you have this backwords. It is the pilots that will arrive in TPE in the morning, rest all day, and fly back to HNL that same evening. The flight attendants will have long layovers in TPE.

I guess the pilots will be staying at the Novotel Airport Hotel then ... I hope they get sufficient, good quality rest.

I understand it is poor form to discuss where airline crews stay during their layovers. Purely from a security standpoint.
Next Flights: PDX-HNL-OGG-LIH-PDX On AS, WP & HA

I agree with you. However, hotel choices for TPE have not been made yet, nor have the HA labor representatives visited TPE yet. HA Crew hotel locations will never be discussed by me, and I would hope that others here would respect our crew's privacy by leaving that information off of these forums.

I am honestly not expecting the redeye return from HNL to TPE. The return seems to arrive HNL too late for many West Coast connections. I guess this will be most likely a O&D flight, or maybe HA is thinking of extending the TPE flight to somewhere in SE Asia in the near future, like BKK or SIN, or even HKG!

Why don't they depart around 1500 to arrive in Hawaii at 0600 or 0700 ?

I've decided to refrain from commenting on the possible short rest for the pilots, therefore I have deleted my content. All I'll say is the next few months will certainly be interesting regarding this issue.
