Gatwick News Thread

I thought I would start BA Gatwick news Thread 2. Many thanks to all who contributed to the original.
Summer 2013 timetable will soon be underway with increased BA flights operating. Lets hope its a good one.
Anyone heard any rumours about the shape of the Winter 2013/2014 BA timetable from Gatwick?
I am hoping that Las Palmas may feature. Apparently Arrecife and Tenerife have sold very well for the summer.

I'm with you OP

I love the base at LGW.

Here's hoping for a BA LGW-NQY sector to be reinstated, it would allow me easy access to the BA network of year round routes ex LGW, mainly JER and EDI ( which I know BE serve seasonally ex NQY)

I'm hoping for this as well but i think we may be waiting a while!!

Air Southwest tried that didn't they? i don't think it lasted long. shame though. I like flying with flyBe out of NQY but its far too expensive. To be honest, any new airline/destination out of newquay would be great!

On original post that was deleted I mentioned that G-DBCJ positioned to LGW last week. Does anyone know if this is first of the the BMI 319s to migrate for summer season or just temporary?

A feed is precisely what SZ missed. The morning up and evening back routes were quite quickly turning into a license to print money, but the mostly empty remaining two legs dragged the route down. The intention was to hook up with KLM via a GDS to allow onward through ticketing worldwide via AMS, but that was delayed several times and in the end was finalised and launched just after LCY ended.

I don't see the market for NQY-LCY on BACF, it doesn't have the yields which IOM has, but I can see EZY adding a midday-ish six weekly or daily LGW-NQY in the future. Especially if BE do drop to double daily with E95s instead of three daily on the Q400.

It positioned to LGW on the evening of 17 March.

On 18 March 734 G-DOCA positopned LGW-SOF for heavy maintenance at Lufthansa Technik. It is unlikely to return to LGW until after the start of the summer season timetable.

So if 'CJ was effectively a replacement for 'CA - which is at least possible - then it seems possible 'CJ will stay on at LGW and be one of the 319s operating part of the BA Summer 2013 Timetable there.

VV701 I believe that your suggestion is probably correct. I have noticed that the BA 737s have been positioning to Sofia at the rate of about one every 3 to 4 weeks. As one arrives back at Gatwick another departs to Sofia. The intention is to have all the 737s and the additional A319s flying during the busy Summer months. (with perhaps a 737 spare to cover the maintenance) During the Winter 2013/2014 the first 737s will be retired from the fleet. I expect the A319s will remain at Gatwick rather than migrate back to Heathrow for the Winter. I have heard that more A319s will go to Gatwick next Summer as more 737s are retired and newer A320s delivered to Heathrow. The current plan appears to have a short haul fleet of about 25 at Gatwick. Any A319/A320 at Gatwick mix I guess will depend on demand and the routes to be served.
Incidentally I assume the 737s have not been positioning to BA Engineering at Glasgow as they usually did owing to both Glasgow and Prestwick being very busy with Airbus maintenance and some planned remedial work to structures.

Allegedly Germania are to open a base at LGW operating flights to some Greek islands on behalf of a tour operator. I don't have much more info at the moment!

Had a so-so experience a couple of weeks ago LGW-VCE in CE. Stayed overnight at the Sofitel (dumped bags off night before). Swift security and straight to Galleries which was nice - can't beat a glass of champagne and toast! Had 3D&F on 734 which was suprisingly tidy. Chap serving us though was miserable as sin. I know it was early but hey I've been awake as long as you! I was looking forward to the BA breakfast but what a dissapointment. My cats eat more than that! There were certainly different breakfasts on offer (either that or they were on rations when packing mine). Way home different story. Had the cream tea. Crew addressed us by name, kept offering top ups which I had to refuse as was driving home. Had to wait ages for bags - are they not priority? While at Marco Polo lounge in VCE the plane was right infront of us, saw my bag go on almost first - assume that means most of the time it will be offloaded toward the end. So a mixed bag, but would do it again. Have just acheived Bronze - doing LHR-TLV in a few weeks so will be interesting to compare.
Last year I did a few runs LGW-ANU - out Y and back WTP - the offering in WTP I think is better than CE shorthaul...

On theBaSource website it reports that following 319s transferred to Gatwick.

G-DBCC
G-DBCG
G-DBCI
G-DBCK

I believe G-DBCJ has not returned from LGW so that looks to be the 5 migrating minibuses that we have been discussing last couple of months.
