Trans World Airlines - A330-300

I was thinking of a fourm post from a long time ago and I think I saw somebody say that TWA had some Airbus A330's on order, is this really true? I know that Northwest Airlines and US Airways are the only airlines in the U.S to have or ordered the A330.

It is absolutely true that TWA has A330-300s on order. They even will receive the first one of ten planes ordered in early 1999.

They did have A330 on order, but delayed them and have now cancelled the order or deferred them for several more years.

It's a fact that TWA will never take possesion of those A330's. I've heard it speculated that TWA will make Boeing eat the cancellation charges if Boeing wants TWA to order it's planes to replace the 727/DC9

I hope TWA get those A330-300 they look good in TWA colors. I think too that TWA should order A320/19/21/18 for there short hall fleet.

There going to order 717 and 737ng soon.
They just order 3 767-300ers, 20 md-80, and 10 757-200.

Yes,TWA has the A330 on order.According to my book here,they ordered 10 of them with an option for 20 more.

I've looked through this thread and TWA seems to be generating a controversy. The A330s were ordered by Carl Icahn (remember him?) ages ago. They specified RR Trent engines at the time (compatible with RB211s on the L1011s)
Some TWA people I've spoken with seem to think that TWA will never take delivery of them. I have no idea, but I would think that they could use a bit more capacity on the North Atlantic than a 767-300 provides. With the 767-400 just around the corner, who knows what will happen.

Airbus and Boeing are rumoured to be locked in mortal combat on a 737NG vs. A320 for TWA. I'm sure Boeing would like to see TW pick up some 717s; they make sense, considering all those Krazo (spell it backwards) DC-9s wandering around the midwest!

I heard too that TW isn't going to actually ever receive the A-330's. But nobody seems to know exactly why. Is it too big to for TWA (I doubt it) ? Are the affraid of 'buy american' sentiments of the travelling public ? Are they holding out for the 767-400 ? Or are they just playing Boeing and Airbus out against each other (although this is usually done before an order is made)? Anybody ... ?
