UPS Fined By FAA Due To Bad Practices

Wed Apr 24, 2013 10:45 pm

FAA said United Parcel Service must pay a $4 million civil penalty for not complying with rules on maintaining and operating its aircraft. According to FAA UPS failed to follow procedures while repairing four of its aircraft used on more than 400 flights between October 2008 and June 2009.
The planes involved were two DC-8 and two MD-11 aircraft.

Does anyone know more details about this ??

wow... so I am reading this post and I just read the one about UPS losing that giant contract to Fedex.
Upper management should be completely removed from every one of their positions and replaced with fresh blood.
However beautiful the strategy, you should occasionally look at the results

Quoting Gonzalo (Thread starter):

I caught that from the article and have no idea what the discrepancy was what I did notice this is 2013 and the FAA administrator says the planes should be immediately grounded, repaired and UPS respond in 30 days.

So the real question what were these planes doing for the last almost 4 years?

I am thinking this is a seriously miswritten or intentionally misleading article.

Wow, Ground them till the repairs are made!!! What a concept. Hmmm DC8 parked 4 years ago, the MD11's kinda so what....I guess if you are being told you are getting laid off and can't get paid you will shake trees for your company to survive.....

Could this be part of the reason why the contract went to FedEx?

Not a chance. The USPS made its decision based on the current situation, not in any way caring about what happened years ago. The FAA loves finding years-old incidents to fine airlines for.

This is just another government shakedown. I would put money on the repair problem being in the paperwork and not the work itself. Its just another move by the socialist led executive branch turning an agency whose two responsibilities are completely contradictory (promote and regulate) into another Sheriff of Nottingham.

I hope they don't fine them ridiculously, after all there was very little danger to people's lives like in the case of a passenger aircraft..
