LH Collective Bargaining Successful

Wed May 01, 2013 11:20 am

Apparently, the collective bargaining at Lufthansa has been successful and an agreement has been/will soon be signed. At the moment, all I can give you is a breaking news item: http://www.tagesschau.de/

Quote:

rough translation:

Further warning strikes of Lufthansa ground staff have been avoided for the time being. The corporation and ver.di (the union) have agreed on a new labour agreement. As confirmed by a union spokesman, the agreement for the 33,000 employees stipulates wage increases between three and 4.7 per cent. Additionally, there is an employment guarantee for 26 months.

more information is now available directly from Lufthansa:

Quote:
At the fourth round of wage talks for around 33,000 Lufthansa ground staff in Germany, the Air Traffic Employers’ Association (AGVL) and the ver.di union reached agreement on 1 May. The agreement provides for pay rises differentiated for the first time according to the performances of the different business segments. It is valid for 26 months from 1 February 2013 to 31 March 2015.

Under the terms of the settlement, employees of Deutsche Lufthansa AG are to receive a pay increase of 3.0 per cent in two stages, the first on 1 August 2013 (1.5 per cent), the second on 1 August 2014 (1.5 per cent). The increase reflects the current difficult situation at Lufthansa German Airlines.

and so on

Minions? Do we really need socialistic workers militia branch speech 20 years after the GDR vanished in disgrace from the contenance of this planet? IMHO, as much as a hole in the head.

Militant Ver-di could have gotten that result without a damagin strike which was far beyond reason.

So, let's see, Ver.di demanded a contract for 12 months and a general increase of pay of 5,2%, job guarantee

They got:

contract duration 26 months

Zero increase for the first 6 months of 2013.

From July onwards

For the passenger airline thereafter 3,0%
for Cargo and Technik 4,7%
for trainees in dual training programs 5,2%

For the passenger airline this means, for 2013, an increase below inflation which is 2%

There are job guarantees and provisions for outsourcing of certain areas.

looks like there is not increase of productivity by additional work hours.

Work force reduction by normal atrition is possible.

Overall not optimal in the gface of world wide competition, but not bad either.

"Successful" means that an agreement has been reached. It's not a judgement of that agreement.
