Well one thing you can say about VW is that she is not reserved so this could be a very interesting uniform indeed.

Its said to include a pencil skirt, cinched waist and a tailored fit to the hips. Maybe not the most flattering style for those with a fuller figure.

There are not that many Fuller Figure crew on Virgin ... they tend to go for model stock!

Maybe Virgin should be putting it's efforts into returning to profitability rather then a new uniform that is not required?

Often natural war and tear replacement means costs are limited to design costs. This was the argument given for the new standardised NHS uniforms. Issue with airlines is that they will not do phased introduction and so to kit out everyone simultaneously will have outlay.

Virgin Atlantic is a profitable airline......

They have only posted a loss in 3 of it's years.

They are not in any debt and have a good cash balance in the bank !

The sketches of the new VS uniform look fantastic !

VS is re-launching itself, it's getting back to it's original routes, new planes, new products, new uniforms etc....

The main reason for the new uniform is that, the current John Roche uniform is 14 years old, I know it got re-freshed in 2004 but it's old now and has been copied by other airlines over the years !

If we wanna talk about airlines in trouble wasting money - lets look at Thomas Cook, they introduced a new uniform when TCX was re-branded from JMC in 2003, then again with the merger with My Travel in 2008 and again I believe in 2011 - now thats a waste of money - 3 uniforms in 8 years !!

This new uniform for VS will only be their 4th in 30 years !

For those of us who have eyes only for the male cabin crew, the new design looks pretty dull - M&S value range. Hopefully it has something tucked away that will give it a whole lot more style than is obvious from the sketches

I have always liked the VS male uniform, a nice grey 3 piece suit. The new one I think will be something different and very unique.

I would love the girls to get hats at VS and I am glad the red shoes are staying !

I hope they keep the wings badge simple and classy - not like the huge ones that Thomson got after their merger ! lol

Good point there.

£130m loss isn't exactly profitable is it? Hopefully that will turn around soon and I am very happy about Little Red giving BAs monopolised domestic operations a run for their money. I was on their first services on the 31/03 as it happens.

I don't 'wanna' actually. In fact, I am only 'ThomasCook' by username. I've never worked for them. I work for overseas based airline.

My statement is fact.... Virgin Atlantic is a profitable airline, regardless of the loss last year, they are still in overall profit and have no debts and have a positive cash bank balance - therefore, they are a profitable airline !

The same implication that Virgin Atlantic isn't currently profitable...doesn't it? You stated Virgin is profitable, I rebutted that by responding that a £130m loss isn't profitable. Virgin's net debt has been estimated at £1.2b for 2013 when taking leased frames into account.

Huh? Regardless of a loss, they are profitable? Do you mean solvent? Not teetering on bankruptcy? Companies can survive for a time while incurring losses but they are not profitable during that period.

Stated by Grazia of the women's uniform, "noting the female outfit's "very feminine silhouette, nipped in at the waist and with double pleats and a dart on the pencil skirt."

And by Westwood, "My clothes have always got a very strong dynamic rapport with the body"... "They are very body conscious, they help you to look glamorous, more hourglass, more woman."

Interesting how they do not talk about the men's uniform in a similar way. Instead we get, "...a rich burgundy wool with details in grey wool under the lapels and pockets." BARF.

This would be more appealing:

"Trim cut dress shirts to highlight 6-pack abs, sculpted pecs, broad shoulders, and well developed deltoids"... "low rise suit trousers with a slight V angle in the waistband, just above the fly, to accentuate the wearer's package; darts on the rear of the trousers to highlight the natural curves just below the small of the back; and tapered legs to finish out the athletic, young, and healthy silhouette."

What is this new uniform season?

New uniforms for JL, MU, QF, sometime this decade for UA, now VS.... Who's next? AA is in most need but its coming, PR & AZ could certainly do with a refresh!

I like the uniforms. Professional and glamorous. It is a cheap way to help sell the airline. Bummer red is now associated with the DL dress in large sizes though...

Quoting virgincrew (Reply 7):
Virgin Atlantic is a profitable airline......

Already noted they lost money and if they were so profitable, why was 49% of the airline sold off?

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/finance/n...in-Atlantic-faces-record-loss.html

But here is more:
Virgin's profit record is patchy at best, another loss expected
As a privately-owned company, Virgin Atlantic does not directly publish detailed accounts, but it does report both its profit and loss account and balance sheet to the UK’s Civil Aviation Authority (CAA), which publishes these financial statements and traffic data on its website. VA’s financial year end is February and it will be some months before FY2012-13 accounts are available.

It has been reported that an internal memo from CEO Craig Kreeger refers to an expected loss that is “well behind where we expected”, with a loss figure of GBP135 million quoted (source: The Sunday Times). Mr Kreeger is reported to have initiated a broad-based cost-cutting plan and a pay freeze. Further losses would be serious after a big loss in the last reported financial year (to end Feb-2012).

In FY2011-12, data from the CAA show that Virgin Atlantic Airways Ltd saw revenue growth of 6%, but made an operating loss of GBP92 million (profit of GBP26 million the previous year). The CAA data are only for Virgin Atlantic Airways Ltd, rather than for the whole group, which includes Virgin Holidays and differ slightly from those reported in Virgin Atlantic’s press releases for group results. Nevertheless, the CAA data are much more detailed than any VA press release and show the performance of the core airline business of the group.

This report analyses the last reported accounts in some detail below.

See link for more. Look at the graph. The trend is *not* in VS's favor. I'd like the airline to do well. But they've lost some of their appeal. New uniforms will help.

http://centreforaviation.com/analysi...reater-financial-discipline-101011

VS will be in trouble when more narrowbodies are capable of TATL due to their North American dependence. VS seems to have lost cost control. Has SRB been playing with models of an age to be his granddaughter too much? The slope of CASK (CASM) is steeper than RASK (RASM). That is never a good trend.

But new uniforms returning VS to a bit of their marque will help.

49% was sold off over a decade ago to singapore ailrines - all that has changed hands is who owns that shareholding.

$360M... hardly a valueless airline. Whilst it is far less than what SQ paid, I don't think anyone in their right mind would of agreed with the SQ valuation.

I've been thinking about these uniforms. (I know, on topic. So atypical on a.net.) The form fitting ladies uniform implies a certain amount of 'hiring standard.' Is that legal in the UK?

Also, it seems VS is 'selling' the female uniform. For on closer examination, not only does the male uniform need a better description, its very tailored and should look sharp on an athletic frame.

Has Pan Ann done a skit yet on the new VS uniforms?
Quoting smi0006 (Reply 18):

One could hope so. Although VS has done much better than some other airlines 'new' uniforms.

Quoting anstar (Reply 20):

But it was sold off to keep VS liquid. Now SRB made a good deal on the sale; no doubt about that. And the VS trendline is not good. VS sold off 49% of the airline the last 'problem.' What will they do this time?

Quoting anstar (Reply 23):

That I never meant to imply VS was 'valueless,' but that is far different than healthy. DL *must* reform VS to have a good ROI on that investment. Then again, 49% of VS' LHR slots are worth about $360M.

Given VS now control about 30 odd slots a day at a rough value of $40M given recent purcahes I would say it is worth a bit more than $390M   for 49%

Lets not also forget that the Virgin group own alot of the assets VS use.... ie the training centre so they can charge what they like and this may contribute to the airline P&L. As with most things Virgin... Don't always believe wha you read... I personally believe the loss posted last year may be a little smoke and mirrors.
