Good question. I know UA is scheduled to take delivery of 2 more 787's this year assuming this battery delay has not affected anything.

Actually 909 is also due in 2013 (late December) but won't enter revenue service until 2014.

Has UA openly discussed new 787 destinations with their 2014 batch?

Looking at those schedules...they are making up for lost time. 3x daily on LAX-IAH and 4x daily on DEN-IAH for that time period. Some flights are wingtip flights, like 11:13a DEN-IAH on 788 and 11:15a DEN-IAH on 752.

UA should be taking delivery of 4 more 787s this year so they'll have a lot of opportunity to open up new routes.

How does the UA 787 and 767-400 compare seat/cabin wise? The sCO 767-400's are beautiful birds and BF is huge, will the 787 be about the same? In 2/3 years, with their 787's UA will have an amazing fleet. I hope when the sUA 787's come they will have some with a couple of rows of Global First like the sUA 767's for the 9/10 + hour flights.

Over a year ago Thompson indicated they would use the 787 from Europe to Hawaii. Not sure if they are still contemplating doing so, but if not I suspect it will be a long time before HNL will see 787 service

It does seem like an ideal match for flights from the US East Coast. These are currently done on 777s, 767s and A330s. These ten-hour flights are the perfect range to take advantage of the 787's efficiencies. The issue is that the F/J market on these flights is lower than for international flights, so it would require keeping a separate sub-fleet of domestic 787's for this sort of use. I think we will see this eventually, but well into the 787's service life.

I am surprised HA ordered the A350 over the 787, but I suppose they're glad they did now.

Unfortunately, it has already been decided that all UA 787s will be two-cabin airplanes, including the legacy United orders. Best chance for new deliveries with GF is with the stretched A350... and I am holding out hope for a United 777X launch order.

I hope you're right. I'm booked for my first 787 flight Aug 11 NRT-LAX. Why is it taking so long to get the schedule going again. The planes are sitting, waiting to fly, and they were already flying it on LAX-NRT when they were grounded. I can imagine switching to 777 probably throws off bookings for the next few weeks, but I can't imagine the flights are filled up more than a month out, so why can't they start it up again in June?

UA 787s are flown as sCO flights. I'd gather it's going to take a little while to get them back into the international system on routes where there are sUA crews and equipment rostered, plus not every 787 will be ready to fly tomorrow.

Here's UA 787 delivery schedule:

2013 2 787-8 (sCO)
2014 3 787-8 (sCO)
2015 2 787-9 (sCO)
2016 7 787-8 (sUA), 4 787-9 (sCO)
2017 6 787-8 (sUA), 4 787-9 (sCO)
2018 6 787-8 (sUA), 4 787-9 (sCO)
2019 5 787-8 (sUA)

There's an extra UA 787-8 in there somewhere, either 2019 will be 6 or 2017 will be 7. Not sure.

No, the sUA 787s don't start arriving until 2016. There will be two more sCO 787s delivered this year, I believe a previous poster mentioned that one of those two is moving from a 3rd Qtr to a 4th Qtr. delivery. 1 should arrive in August and one sometime around October or later.

I'll give you 10 to 1 odds, the UA order never sees a 788. All 9's. Some day the 788 is going to be the next 762. Revolutionary for its time, but almost no advantage over is larger sibling. sCO was already realizing this before the first 8 came. Or maybe they always knew it, but didn't know how long they would have to wait for the 9.

The sUA orders will be replacing the 3 class 763s. The 787-9 is not the right aircraft for a 3 class 763 replacement. The 787-8 is already bigger than the 763. Perhaps some might become 787-9s, (or 10s), but they're definitely going to have more than 11 787-8s. Remember they also have the A350s coming on board, not sure what year the first delivery will be though?

I'm fairly sure in the original press release for the sUA order, both the 787s and A350s were slated for delivery in 2016-2019. Of course, if some or all of the A350s are switched to -1000s, that could be pushed back.

That stinks, me thinks! It would seem to me (the next CEO of United) that 2 rows of Global First on the 787-9 would be a magnet. Either selling such a great seat on such a comfortable aircraft or pulling in more loyalty from the big spending GS elites.
Will the sUA 787's have the arch that CO didn't take?

The sUA orders will be replacing the 3 class 763s.

The three class 763's have too few seats on them as is. Plus, too many premium seats relative to many of the routes they run. As the previous poster mentions, I wouldn't be surprised if the 789 becomes the dominant product...not to mention that as you approach 2020, UA will have some 772's that are approaching end of life. In some cases, I could see a two class 789 replace the three class 772.

Last Friday, I saw a LOT Polish 787 parked at O'Hare Chicago. When will LOT 787 be flying back service first time from Chicago to Warsaw for the 787? Which is supposed to be flying back inaugural but force to cancelled.

There will be two more sCO 787s delivered this year, I believe a previous poster mentioned that one of those two is moving from a 3rd Qtr to a 4th Qtr. delivery. 1 should arrive in August and one sometime around October or later.

That is correct. 907 should deliver in August (originally July) and 908 in October. There is potentially a third frame 909 to be delivered late in December that would not enter commercial service until 2014. No routes have yet been announced for these additional frames.

UAL is a bit different how they present their "delivery" tables in investor presentations as they are presented on a "commercial entry into service" rather than a "contractual delivery", hence why UAL is only saying two deliveries for 2013 which doesn't account for frame 909, which is most likely a 2013 contractual delivery but a 2014 entry into commercial service.

Cheers
