50th Paris Air Show 2013 | June 17 - 23

Sun May 12, 2013 8:05 pm

That said Emeric d’Arcimoles, chairman and chief executive officer of the show, at a press briefing March 27: “This new air show in 2013 will be a very, very big air show.”

Will there be many orders again?

I doubt the A380-9 will be offered, but i'd be pleasantly surprised...
I see a number of orders for the 77W again, as well as 789 and (if offered) 7810 orders....hopefully some Japanese carriers will order some more

A whole stack of Airbus orders that have been reported but not yet added to firm order list e.g. IAG A350, QR A330 maybe the AF A350. The 78J launch and a bunch of orders too

Bloomberg, by Andrea Rothman: "Airbus engineers are working 13-hour days to get the company’s latest A350 plane off the ground in time to scoop the headlines at next month’s Paris air show."

“A first flight by Paris would bring a huge credibility boost for Airbus just as people are having doubts about Boeing’s execution,” according to Richard Aboulafia, vice president of U.S.-based Teal Group.

More, 'the sky is falling' from Teal. By now anybody with any sense knows Airbus was pretty much ready to fly the 350 in June and if they work hard enough at it, they could fly it by Paris. While it would be a huge PR event, it won't make a teeny bit of difference to any customer who usually prefers to spend their billions based on a bit more than a flyby or two...just like customers didn't leave by the droves because of the 787 grounding.

If the CSeries doesn't fly before Paris, is that a disaster for them? Oh wait, Richard is vehemently anti CSeries anyway so that's irrelevant.

Real problems and disasters like the 320 flyby accident, the 747 cargo door, 737 rudders, A380 wing cracks and the 787 batteries, didn't spell the end of any company...the 350 making it to Paris won't be the end of the 777x either.

Is the Teal group a National Inquirer subsidiary? Every quote from this guy seems like the aeronautical version of, 'Brad Pitt might be gay'.

What are the chances of an B v A battle with BA the winner?

I am thinking of an A380 in BA livery competing for attention with a Dreamliner in BA livery.

My thinking is that with either at least possible A would want to demonstrate it had broken into the twin-aisle fleet of an important customer while B would want to counter this by showing it was still a twin-aisle supplier to that airline. Or is this pie in the sky with both types only likely to appear in house colours?

I just received from a business partner a corporate access badge and invitation to some of the vendor salons, with lunch and cocktails on the terrace overlooking the action. Checked with our procurement people and they indicate it is allowed corporate hospitality, so I guess I'll be going. Should be good.

I think the only thing that could possibly trump an A350 flyby, would be a flyby of a formation of 787's...say Qatar, BA and LOT...nothing fancy but pretty damned cool all the same.

It won't happen but it would still steal some thunder back.

Rookie question: is the Paris Air Show an industry-insiders-only sort of event, or is it open to the public? Is attending the show something that should be on the bucket list of aviation enthusiasts outside of France?
Thanks.

Thanks.

The week is for insiders then the week-end for the public, the show and demos staying the same (except when the A400M had gearbox troubles and couldn't fly for the public). You often have the latest airplanes/copters there (for example last time I saw the Eurocopter X3, in 2009 the SSJ100...), the patrouille de France will show its new program celebrating its 60th anniversary, experimental and old timers planes also fly, armies show their muscle (the US military is there en masse, last time I visited a C-5 and a Sea Knight, this time I don't know though, with budget cuts), apparently the Russians will come this time.

I have been many times on the week-ends, but last time I went during a "professionals day" when air crew in uniform enter for free and most people are insiders, it's far less crowded and I could do visits, enter cockpits, play a French air force videogame, without hours of queue, really great.

The is very exciting.

Quote:
Canada’s Bombardier said on Sunday its new CSeries passenger jet was in good shape to make its crucial maiden flight by the end of June as it prepares to unveil orders for the more fuel efficient jet at the Paris air show.

The first aircraft, which rolled out of the factory in green primer paint and is now under the control of the flight test crew, is “looking great” for a test sortie this month, Chet Fuller, senior commercial vice president, told reporters.

The countdown coincides with preparations for the first flight of the larger Airbus A350, which could fly before the June 17-23 air show.
