I suspect this is just a typo but 796 is the ship in SFO now for mods, 799 is already back in service with IPTE.

You've been reminded about this several times by myself and others   but 786, 791, 796, and 799 will *not* be reconfigured domestic. Your three new 777 HD's will be 768, 772, and 779 as they are the last three 772A's not yet reconfigured.

Could we not have kept the thread title the same as it has been for the past fifteen iterations?
It makes it harder to find when searching.....

786 and 799 have already been IPTE reconfigured and are back in service. 786 is in SFO for IPTE configuration and once 786 has been completed 791 will be the next and the last 777 reconfigured for international service. The remaining 772A will be reconfigured for HI/domestic use.

I corrected it in reply 228 after the last reminder but took reply 224 to copy into this new thread - so here it is once more!

AND to be honest, I'd be just as happy for others to copy and paste and update with correct details as they notice them. My interest was with the repaints, so I am less knowledgeable about the other changes. _____________________________________________________________________________________

N475UA has not been repainted from the Friendship Retro Livery, if I'm not mistaken

That's what I thought
N475UA is a beautiful bird especially when they display her with sCO 737 Retro livery
Saw it last fall at UA's Family Day @ SFO and got some great side by side photos

RE: United Fleet Upgrade Status 16

Updating the ExpressJet 135s (added two more aircraft) and 145s (correction) + the Silver 1900s (N17541 was stored recently)   and the totals based solely on those changes

Quoting CALPSAFltSkeds (Reply 13):
OK, let's try this:
Not much confidence in Express Fleet (left untouched,) but added WiFi , DirecTV, slimline seats and condensed some lines and tail numbers a bit.

Does this mean that we have some insight as to what they will do to the HI config? Please say 35 J 7 across to replace the 36 Dom F seats. That would be huge for the 7+ hour flights these do.

So the Recaro seats equals the TV's being removed...I would have thought they would do the WiFi upgrades at the same time. Save time out of service.

Sorry, I made an error - the new seats are on N468UA and should be show as 68 vs. 48. 468 already has WiFi - will fix on next total update post.

When will the installation of power ports in Economy begin on the 744? And will they be finished by late 2013, as united.com states?

Note that Boeing does test flying into MWH. Maybe not a coincidence that Aviation Technical Services announced expansion at Moses Lake for narrowbody maintenance - could this be the first mid lav reconfiguration?

RE: United Fleet Upgrade Status 16

Fri May 24, 2013 6:39 pm

United Airlines announced that, effective today, the airline is the only U.S. carrier offering 180-degree flat-bed seats and personal on-demand entertainment in premium cabins on every scheduled, long-haul international flight from the New York area.

Obviously, the 762 fleet exit is a major part of this announcement. The only international aircraft flown by UA at this point that do not have lie flats are one 764 now flying HNL servcice, one 772ER that will go into IPTE conversion in about a week and three 772A model aircraft that will be converted to Hawaiian service, . This could indicate the 772A models may start reconfiguration soon while they seem to be on HNL-AIH, HNL-NRT and HNL-SFO roundtirps at the moment.

762 Fleet exits:
N69154 ferried IAH-GYR 6856/24May

739ER New Delivery:
N37474 exited MCO 6851/23May

73G Maint:
N23708 exited INT 6859/23May
Unknown 73G entered INT 6860/23May

772 Maint/ Possible WiFi??:
N797UA exited PEK 888/24May

A reply above mentioned 159 went tech in MUC a couple days ago, so does this mean that technically all 762s are done flying revenue flights for UA?

So it would seem. There's been zero indication of any problems with UA's or anyone else's 788 fleet since the grounding was lifted. UA appears confident enough in that fact to boot the 762's out of the fleet which is understandable given the operations cost difference.

one 772ER that will go into IPTE conversion in about a week

Do you have any further information on this?? Tail 796 seems to have been in SFO for at least 5 weeks now, possibly closer to 6 weeks; whereas my understanding was that IPTE mods averaged 4 weeks.

Do you have a date, give or take, that tail 791 should go into SFO for the IPTE mods??

The last five IPTE mods at SFO have taken 45, 45,60 44 & 46 days. N796UA has been in SFO 39 days - I have estimated a 5/30 completion date.

772 Maint:
N78007 exited HKG 116/25May
N77012 entered HKG 117/23May

744 maint/WiFi:
N128UA sked to enter PEK 6852/25May

762 fleet exit:
N68159 is in MUC after going tech on 5/21. Was sked to ferry to EWR 5/26, but now shown as cancelled. United.com has shown a EWR-GYR ferry (cancelled), so expect aircraft will eventually ferry to GYR, verifying the 762 fleet has left revenue service.

Any thoughts on when the remaining 747's and 767's will get painted?
I sure hoped that it would be completed over this past winter... apparently not!

Ask and you shall receive: http://www.smugmug.com/gallery/15196...1&s=A

That's terrible. Why didn't they paint the engines the way Continental Express had them?

I remember them saying that everyone would be done by the end of 2013. I doubt they'll do more than 2 or 3 over the summer, so that is a lot of planes to have out of service between Sep and Dec. Can they do 5 a month of their largest planes that have such specific routing? Too bad they couldn't keep the 762's for the summer, and just knock out the 763's 5 at a time. Where's Gordon and his gun?

The reason is because of weight. The EMB-120 has some major weight penalties but keeping the paint off the engines allows several more bags or even a passenger.

Scheduled to finish all of the remaining mainline aircraft this winter....I would expect an early 2014 completion date.

None of the UAX EMB-120s have painted engines.....I think you can paint them but IIRC there was a specific reason why OO did not paint the engines on their EMB's. I just don't remember what the reason is....
I know the voices in my head aren't real but sometimes their ideas are just awesome!!!

Both the 747 and especially the 767 will have a high utilization rate this coming summer. The 3 class 767 fleet is the fleet that is still left partially painted is spaced out over 4 hubs, EWR, IAD, IAH, and ORD maybe 1 or 2, 3 class 767's might get painted because later this summer UA will be replacing 1 out of the 3 nonstop IAH-LHR flights that are now operating with a 3 class 767 with the 787. So maybe 1 or 2, 767 will get painted over the summer but I highly doubt it. They probably will wait till the fall once there is more slack in the 3 class 767 fleet.

I'm not sure what the utilization rate is this summer for the 747 fleet but with UA continuing the WIFI installation over the summer I guess it all comes down to how many spare 747 UA will have and if they can afford to have a 747 in the paint shop as well as a 747 out of service for WIFI installation. If UA can afford to have a couple 747 out of service for a few weeks at a time then you might see a few more 747 get painted over the summer.

Than why do all the other turbo props in the US have painted engines, including the USX 1900's? Skywest is the only major commuter (I feel like that statement is an oxymoron  ) that likes bare metal so much. I love a nice polished AA plane, but they paint the less pretty parts, engines, tail, etc. now. I know many will disagree with me, but I never liked the polished metal on the classic 747's and DC-10's. I always preferred them painted.

Well the point was that they save weight and carry more payload by not painting them. The other carriers simply take it as part of their BEW. It doesn't mean they can't, they just don't. It's all about W&B. Before the ave weight change, it wasn't as much of an issue as they didn't hit max as often, this is just OO trying to be a tad more economical.

OO even had a few with painted engines

They've been going in nose to tail, so expect it about 5/30.

A319: N839UA exited LCQ 6868/26May - Will monitor to see if it has WiFi, bins or both

752 Maint:
N526UA entered IND 6849/26May
N526UA exiting IND 6850/27May

762 Update:
N68159 still in MUC - sked 6880/26May, but United.com showing it cancelled.

752 Fleet exit???
N506UA, on exit list, has been in LAX since 5/21

CORRECTION: 744 maint/WiFi:
N128UA sked to entered HKG6852/25May -shown as PEK - maybe just a positioning flight as 744s haven't had MX done in HKG lately.

It makes a huge difference when you're looking at trying to get another passenger or cargo on. OO regularly hits max weight and balance limits especially out of DEN. You'll notice that EMB-120's usually max out at 28 passengers even out of So-Cal airports. I've only been on a couple flights where we had 30 passengers and it was because we had so many kids out of several hundred flights on an EMB-120 that I've been on.
