I hope they don't paint the test frames the normal bland white or the Boeing themed paint job. Battleship grey would be nice in my humble opinion.

Seriously?! We're talking about the much anticipated new version of the 787 and you are worried the paint job might be boring?!!

I just hope it gets out the door on time without any technical problems so Boeing can really start to crank these planes out

Any bets for when the roll out will be? First flight?

Impressive plane

Another question, any chance this one will/could be painted with ANZ colours already?

Well Boeing plans on testing the frames around the second half of this year so Im guessing between Aug and Oct. The program is under weight and ahead of schedule so hopefully all will go according to plan.

With all due respect, if you're not a moderator, re calibrate your comments and think of something more meaningful and that adds to the thread instead of worrying about a paint job comment I made. Just saying, you probably could have kept that comment upstairs.

Thanks Rotating14!

I will be visiting SEA between 9 and 12/JUN, guess there is zero chance it will be ready for rollout. Bad timming...

Why so serious? When it does roll out in paint, there will most defiantly be quite a few people complaining about what ever paint job its in... Just look at when they rolled out the 748F and 748i..

Agreed, maybe 9 is Boeing's lucky number..

I'm just hoping Boeing has really really learned the lessons of the -8, where they had the vendors ship in parts in whatever state they happened to be in, and claimed that all made sense because they wanted to make sure they parts all fit into the tooling they had built. Meanwhile we still have -8s sitting on the ramp awaiting rework.

Hopefully they'll show the discipline that is being shown on A350-9 where their competition have taken some schedule hits up front to reduce risk of the back end of the schedule blowing up.

How different would a 787-9 forward section be than a 787-8 forward section? Any significant change/modifications as the 9 was being developed?

Quite impressive how clean the section is. An almost perfect surface.

Agreed, i hope they can get the plane on time. Unfortunately we won´t get 787-9s in BOG soon.

If you are here long enough, take the factory tour and you may be able to see in the assembly line.

The cockpit up to past first entry door would probably be the same. After that, the section is similar, just a longer plug.

Hopefully this one is put together with aerospace fasteners instead of Home Depot fasteners.

I thought Boeing had resolved the worst of its vendor issues and actually bought up a few to ensure quality. I'm sure someone with better knowledge can confirm/correct, but my understanding is the initial planes are being reworked steadily, and those coming off the assembly line now do not have the rework issues (other than perhaps that pesky battery pack).

It seems the 787-9 will be a very popular plane - and Boeing plans on delivering 60 787s this year, so I think we'll start seeing a lot of these babies buzzing around airfields within the year.

Earlier aaircraft have to be reworked to bring them up to certification standards.

How many 787-9 did Continental Airlines originally order and what year will they get them? Did you United order any 787-9's?

UA tried Battleship Grey, it didn't look so good. The Boeing livery is a nice looking livery with the blue and white. It looked really good in the orange on the B-747-8I. If you want to see a bland and boring livery, look at Airbus's.

2 in 2015
4 in 2016
4 in 2017
4 in 2018

C'mon man. Don't go there. Don't turn this into an A vs B thread.

Thanks for the response. I just didn't know if any of the lessons learned from -8 to -9 applied to Section 41. This plane I am very excited to see. (I was very impressed by the rollout of the A359, and I think the 789 will look equally well proportioned).

The 787-8 and 787-9 both use the same forward section (41). The extra length of the 787-9 is incorporated in Sections 43 and 46.

Have they decide what will be stretched for the -10? Would it only be buildable in Charleston if the assmebled center piece gets any longer?
