Possible Orders At Le Bourget

Mon May 27, 2013 4:39 pm

Title says all, so let the speculation begin

So far we have DL for A330s and A321s, Easyjet for 737Max or A320 as well as CSeries, EK for more A380s and possible 777X launch order. Also rumored was LH for A350s but I doubt it, since LH said they will place an order this fall. Maybe they firm up their big A320 order if that had not been done already.

IMHO this will be more likely at Dubai in November.

If Boeing does launch the 787-10X at Le Bourget, we'll see orders for it, as well.

Stitch, a question off topic, what's the meaning of the X in the 787-10?

May we see the firm up of the KL/AF order for the A350?

Besides this, I think all above mentioned orders are plausible.

Boeing traditionally appends an "X" to concept aircraft within a family. So we have the 787-10X and the 777X.

Once a concept becomes reality, they drop the X. For example, the 777-200X became the 777-200LR and 777-300X became the 777-300ER when both models were formally launched. And when Boeing formally launches the 787-10X, it will become the 787-10. Same with the 777X - when it launches, we'll have the 777-8, 777-8L and 777-9 (and most likely a 777-8F).

Just putting out there...

TK order for A350-900 and possibly options for A350-1000 and maybe even an A380 order.

SQ order for A350-1000.

JL and NH orders for A350-1000.

Emirates already hinted at an big A380 order later this year.

As for the Paris airshow, here is a possible line-up:

Airbus
> Lufthansa: 100x A320 + 2x A380
> Air China: 60x A320
> Shenzhen Airlines: 40x A320
> Qatar: 15x A330
> AirAsia: 50x A320
> IAG: 18x A350 (firming the MoU)
> Air France: 25x A350 (firming the MoU)
> Jet Airways: 50x A320 (for JetKonnect)
> China: more A330s

I don't expect the rumored JAL A350 order being announced during the Paris airshow.

Boeing
> Jet Airways: 50x 737 Max
> Fly Dubai: 50x 737 Max
> IAG launching the 787-10X
> More 737, 777 and 787 orders but no idea for who

There are a lot of rumored Airbus orders going around the internet but almost nothing from Boeing. So I expect to see some nice surprises.

Par for the course as Airbus and their customers appear to prefer to announce at Air Shows.

Hopefully Boeing will be allowed to identify the customers for a number of their recent UFO orders.

Would the LH order be used to phase out existing frames as production is so far out. I don't doubt that its real, but it seems like legacy carriers tend to order in double digit quantities and LCCs tend to do huge block orders of triple digits. Plus I ask because they have established presence in most A320 lanes/ranges from Germany already.

This is just my perception...not backed with hard facts.

I wonder if a US order will be coming up soon?

Their A320 family isn't a spring chicken anymore, with the average age of the A320 family being 14 years old. While this isn't old in any means for aviation (besides Emirates) it should be time for them to start thinking about a replacement.

While I wish for this to happen, with the merger and such I'm sure US has bigger fish to fry at the moment.

Here is my speculation:

- Silk Air orders 10 A321 NEOs.

- Cathay Pacific announces an order of 10 787-10X and 10 options to replace older 777s.

- El Al orders 6 737-8MAX and 4 more on option.

- SAA announces an order for 6 A350-1000s.

- Icelandair announces an order of 20 737-8MAX to replace 757s and more on option should they need to expand.

- Austrian orders Bombardier C Series and A320NEOs.

The 16 B737MAX, and one B787 on order should be enough for Icelandair as it is. They have options for 8 B737MAX and I do not expect them to finalize any of those options for a while.

If the 10x launches at Paris as rumored, I could see UA signing up for about 20-30 or more for 777 replacements. The 77As will be pushing 25 years at the time of 781 intro and the 200ers will be pushing close to 20.

My Additions/Speculations:
737MAX
- Copa

A320neo
- IAG

A350
- Air France/KLM - Order Firmed
- AirLease 2-3 topup

777X
- Air Lease ~10
First to fly the 787-9 (ZK-NZE, NZ103, 2014-10-09)

With US now taking on AA's massive narrowbody fleet replacement order via their merger they might be holding back as they merge and rationalize the two fleets. AA also has 365 options on the A320 and A320neo family, which are sufficient to handle replacement of US' A320 family down the road.

All looks probable, except the above-mentioned Jet order.

I can certainly see a few of these, but not:

- Silk Air is replacing their A32X fleet with 737NG's and MAX's.

- Icelandair already ordered 16 MAX's. Doubt they'll order more so soon.

- I'd consider SAA a long-shot to order anything at the moment. I know their new'est' turn-around plan is partly based on overhauling (dumping) their A340 fleet. But they still need a few more bail-outs to be able to bring something new in.

- I don't see CX taking on the 7871. . . yet.

Kuwait's recent 350 + 320 firming of MoU?

Sri Lankan's reported 330 + 350 firming of MoU?

QR mentioned 380s and 777Xs in addition to the 330s (I assume he wont want to finalise in Dubai and although he talks about wanting more of every aircraft under the sun)

Indeed. Interestingly no one mentioned LATAM. Will LATAM firm up TAM's MOU for 27 A350s that was signed before LAN completed its take over of TAM? Will LATAM look at ordering 777Xs and 787-10Xs? Will LATAM top-up its existing order of 77Ws and 787s? Will LATAM look at taking on A350s; as well as 787-9s/787-10Xs? Very interesting...

Agreed, though I still expect this be a very good week for the A350. Firming up orders from Sri Lankan and Kuwait as mentioned by India1, but also some surprise orders. I'm waiting for SQ to order the A350-1000, if they want to replace their first batch of 77W's by the time those are 12 years old, SQ cannot wait too long any more.

Don't think those will be firmed at Paris, unless IAG's shareholders meeting to approve the order will be held in the same week. I'm also pretty sure as soon as AF's issue with RR is resolved the A350 will be firmed, but I doubt it will coincide with Le Bourget...

If Boeing does launch the 787-10X at Le Bourget, we'll see orders for it, as well.

At least two launch customers, but not BA I don't think. BR, PA would be more likely. Hopefully some nice surprise orders.

Quoting columba (Thread starter): EK for more A380s
IMHO this will be more likely at Dubai in November.

Well, A380s at Le Bourget and 777X at Dubai should ensure a better marketing spread

obviously they'll order Twin Otters on floats.

Ah! Good one. Almost forgot about that...

Quoting CX Flyboy (Reply 24):
athay buying 300 light aircraft for aerial surveys, pleasure flights and crop dusting....oh and a Constellation for their historic flight division, even though we never operated Connies. It's possible!

They're tired of twins now, too expensive to fly...
I heard the PC-12 is real low on fuel burn. I'm sure they'll be all over that.

Can you operate a PC-12 by cost index?
I'll do my own airline. With Blackjack. And hookers. In fact, forget the airline.

The airlines I haven't heard about are EY/9W. With their recent alliance, they'll need more aircraft. Ok, for longhaul, 9W will use recalled 777s. But EY will need more airframes...

Quoting India1 (Reply 35):
So, if LH is the 1st for the year and if EK is most likely in Nov, who else are you speculating about?

I had replied to a quote on QR. But note, I know nothing about there real chances of ordering more A380s.

Perhaps, but BA's latest 787 order is for any current or future model and Boeing has yet to book it on their site.

Speaking of existing orders, SQ's Scoot could convert some 789's to 78J's if the latter is launched.

Embraer is rumored to launch the E-jet NG at the airshow so there must be a sizable order. B6 for replacement maybe?

SQ order for A350-1000.

It appears something along these lines has happened but before Le Bourget...

78J

A bit off topic but, first we got the 73G, then the 77W and now a 78J? Where do those letters stand for? Of course I apologise if this question has ever been posted before.

They have gone on record as saying they would like to launch with orders, and that they are talking to several airlines about this. I'm reasonably sure that the E-Jet G2 will be launched at Paris this year, all the signs point to this, so a few Embraer orders should be a given... the question is, who?
