If only I was a multi-bizillionaire...
Beauty is watching a 787 bank to make a short final. Bliss is watching that 787 with a good beer. Nirvana is all of that with a beautiful woman on your side.

Is this one of the freighters Boeing sent to California for storage?

It's clearly not one of LH's birds and I believe all of the BBJs currently assembled have been delivered to outfitting centers.

Maybe it is the 747-8i LH cancelled. The to be registraion D-ABYE. This frame will stay at Boeing and LH will not take it.

Boeing is currently using that frame to test items like the FMC and tail fuel tank so it's tooling around PAE.

Yes, but at one point they will sell it - if still possible depending on its condition (the reason why LH didn't want it anymore). And maybe they offer it already as they know that not many airlines/ People out there want to buy 747-8i

Perhaps RC004 :

L/N 1446 - 747-8JA , RC004, serial number 40065 , BBJ customer : Saudi Crown Prince Bin Abdulaziz Al Saud (Saudi Arabian Government ), test registration N458BJ, future registration HZ-HMS1 , white livery, F/F May-30-2012, Delivery date: June 29-2012, Delivery flight (N458BJ- CYVR-KSBD) date July 9-2012. Owner : Bank of Utah Trustee, Salt Lake City, Utah (Corporation). Temp. stored at San Bernadino .
The Future of this aircraft seems to be unsure, because the Prince passed away at October 22-2011. VIP outfitting contract with Jet Aviation (Basel) was cancelled.
Ferried, again with call-sign N458BJ, to Lackland AFB TX at October 06-2012.
Leased to a new customer or delivery to another member of the Saudi Royal Family ?
Ferry flight (N458BJ- KSKF-LFSB) to Basel -Mulhouse at December 28-2012. (Cancelled Jet Aviation outfitting slot occupied by new customer ?)
Operating a twin over the ocean, you're always one engine failure from a total emergency.

Couldn't Boeing keep it and be the first 748 LCF? I know its probably to expensive for them to keep it, but it could help with the upcoming 789 frames.

I do not think they need it for LCF. Aren't they using only three of their four aircraft at this point anyway? It could be that once they go to 12 or 14 a month that even the four is not enough but I think they will be sending wings by barge by then which should open things up.

Do we know if this is a freighter or intercontinental? It did not seem clear to me by the listing.

It's an Intercontinental, but in BBJ configuration.

This test frame has several differences compared to the 19 others they get. So LH was not too happy about it anyways. Now Boeing is in need of a test frame for much longer than expected, bringing further modifications, so LH and Boeing agreed that this aircraft will stay with Boeing.
