A 777-200ER For Sale, Interesting Picture

Fri May 31, 2013 3:28 am

http://www.controller.com/listingsde.../1998-BOEING-777-200ER/1269049.htm

This is interesting, if you zoom in on the picture, look close to the tail. Does that look like serious damage to the plane and still flying? I am sure it must have been a ferry flight, there is no way they would have pressurized with that. Would they?

Any clues on which plane that is, what happened, and couldn't they find a better picture??? Lol I mean, who in the world would cough up $65 mil when the picture even shows potential structural damage...

Nope, just a poorly photoshopped erasure of the registration. It is CS-TFM of EuroAtlantic, I even found the picture they used in the A.net database:

CS-TFM is ex-SIA 9V-SRA. Wouldn't mind being on that bird one more time.

And it's a steal at only $65,000,000! Is it sold as is, or will the seller patch the gaping hole in the back?

What's the story behind this aircraft? Who flew it, for how long, and how did it get damaged?

Inquiring - but lazy - minds want to know.

Per:
Aircraft Values, And Lease Pricing - Spring 2013 (by LAXintl May 14 2013 in Civil Aviation)

Resale of 777-200ERs are worth $40 to $118M.

So that seems like a reasonable asking price for an older (but not ancient) 77E.

Shame EuroAtlantic don't have a reason to keep her - they're a good airline, I flew em from CDG to LHR T5 during the BA cabin crew strike in 2010 and the crew were absolutely lovely. That was a super-old (lots of brown on the inside) 757-200. They're the opposite of TAP (who don't care at all - "friends don't let friends fly TAP" as I often say).

Anyway I liked the idea of such a small independent airline mixing it up with a 777. I know Biman Bangladesh are actively looking for a couple of these (second hand -200s) to replace the last two DC-10s this year. Maybe this will be one of them.

This exact plane was operated by Biman Bangladesh prior to EuroAtlantic.

Do they really expect someone to be browsing through Controller magazine and just happen to say "hey - it would be fun to have a 777 - maybe I should drive by the airport and look at it"?
