Will any of BA's 787s feature the 'Dreamliner" decal? I noticed Zulu Bravo seems to lack these decals..

Nice. It will be a good fit for LHR-EWR where they don't need all that capacity of the 777.

Do we know what their first intercontinental destinations will be?

Nice looking plane. The overlapping introduction of the A380 into BAs fleet though will render the 787 delivery rather uninteresting for the marketing department in comparison.

Boeing 787-836 G-ZBJA has been sealed up, windows blacked and joined the other 30 or so in storage and queuing awaiting the mods necessary to gain airworthy status by the looks of it.

View the Paine blogs elsewhere.

Some of those frames have been in store for 2 + years !

The one stored that u see in those pics is G-ZBJC. G-ZBJA is next to G-ZBJB on the flightline and should have its first flight imminently. G-ZBJC is stored as it awaits its turn in the sequence of aircrafts delayed by the grounding. She should be delivered in late July.

I'm not quite sure the A380 will drown out the 787 launch. The BA marketing dept will make more of her flyer comfort features: The advanced technogy, cabin pressure, eco friendly, windows, cabin lights etc - I would bet! The press seems far more drawn to the 787 for both good and bad reasons. (although there will be endless battery jokes in the cynical (but often funny) press.

I think the customer experience on a BA 787 will be amazing too and I can't wait for her to come to EWR!

I must concur with others here: the 787 in BA livery is very beautiful and sexy. QantasSvjet does make a good point: gotta love those wings!

On on of the threads recently I saw a list of "likely" destinations for the BA787. YYZ was one of those for one of the three daily flights.

I don't think so, either. I think they're both pretty big deals.

I think the 787 has the "Wow gee high-tech!" glam to it, while the A380 has the "OMGWowzers! That's really big!" glam to it.

I doubt it'll be SFO...   Wouldn't shock me if SFO got the A380, though. We already get 2x744. That could be replaced ultimately with a 77W and an A380 for almost identical capacity.

My guess is that, to some degree, it will fill routes that are currently served by 763s. I'm not sure that BA will make that much use of its longer legs on most of its route network, since the vast majority of BA flights are under 6,000 nmi. Having your hub in London gives you easy nonstop access to four out of the six populated continents. Having a second one at MAD gives you access to a fifth.

LHR to South America isn't much further (generally 200 to 500 miles depending on destination) than from MAD.

I would have thought the first flight would be PAE-BFI...is Boeing keeping birds at Everett after their B-1? All customer flights are typically out of Boeing Field...

BA has a terrific livery, very distinctive and I've always admired it but on this aircraft it but somehow looks a bit dated. I'm trying to get my head around why it seems like this to me.

I think maybe because of all the 'special' liveries modified for the 787 such as the 'wavy' cheat line on the United examples for example.

It does look thoroughly unremarkable. Nice that they retained the blue engines though. I remember reading here that the engines were originally expected to be grey.

I agree that the 787 will make a low-profile entrance into BA's fleet, marketing-wise. Probably the folks at BA are quite happy that the A380 can take some of that attention away. The British press has rather sharp teeth, and what with the 787's bad press recently, the race for the snarkiest headline is on. I expect that BA will quietly integrate the 787 into the fleet, and will make good money with it in the years to come. More of a workhorse than a glamour bird.

I agree too. If you look at ba.com there's a whole section about the new A380 but nothing at all about the B787 even though the B787 will arrive at end of June and the A380 will be about a month later. And she's not even listed on the their fleet page, but the A380 is.

Last week I flew the 787 (QR on my way to DPS - wifi was brilliant) large windows, lovely cabin. An amazing plane. I cannot wait to try it out with BA - and their 380 too. Fabulous picture BTW. Credit to the photographer.

A big VIP gathering will take place to welcome both the A380 and the B787 at the same time.

Is there anything significant about the G-ZBxx registration, in the same way that G-VIIx signified the numeral '7?'

The 787, certainly the early '8' models will, I imagine, operate the secondary routes, currently operated by 763s and some 772s, and hence will make far less of a splash than the A380 which is very much the flagship plane of the fleet

First A380 arrives 4th July and a large event is being planned to welcome it and the B787 into the fleet on that day!
