AA Re-launching SAN-MIA Tonight (June 12)

Wed Jun 12, 2013 8:44 pm

Tonight AA flight 1065 is scheduled to land at Lindbergh Field at 8:55, flying in nonstop from Miami! It's great to see this route back since its cancellation back in 1993. The return trip, flight 1042 is a 9:45pm departure; the roundtrip will be daily, year-round, and op'd with a 738.

It doesn't appear that there will be any major celebration at the gate, at least by the airport folks as there was no media alert. This is not unusual for a re-started route, nor for a night flight.

I can say that this is a long-awaited return and it's terrific that SAN is now connected to all of AA's major U.S. bubs -- DFW, ORD, MIA, JFK and LAX. Along with a new and enlarged Admiral's Club and all kinds of exciting OneWorld presence in town now, AA seems to be in a very nice position now here in SAN!

Another nice realization is that along with AS's route to MCO, SAN is now connected nonstop with two cities in Florida! To the best of my knowledge, this is the first time ever that has been the case. Consider that less than a year ago, we had no nonstop service at all to the state of Florida!

Congratulation to the Route Development folks at SDIA and to AA for making this happen.

It is amazing. I grew up in SD and wondered why one had to fly SAN-DFW-XXX. Do you happen to know the reasoning behind the timing? It seems like AA is really only targeting SAN-Caribbean/Northern South America with the eastbound redeye. I guess DFW will still be the only connection for SCL/GRU/GIG/EZE, etc.

Correct psa'. I do know that from all 7 of their western-most major cities (SEA, SFO, LAX, SAN, LAS, PHX and DEN), AA also runs red-eyes to MIA. All of those cities except SAN and SEA have daylight flights to MIA as well, but all DO have red-eyes for the connections you mentioned, plus, I would imagine, cruise passenger traffic.

European connections are also possible of course but those pax will need to spend the day at MIA. I think the MIA-SAN flight makes good connections from most all originating points.

I'd like to see new AA routes from MIA, like Milan.

Congrats to AA on a great route, looking forward to it.

I know, I was giving an example of what the route AA is going to start up.

My apologize for not being more specific.

PHX's daily year-round flight is an afternoon MIA arrival. The 2nd seasonal flight is the redye.

Just under a five hour connection for the daylight GRU flight.
