52 A300-600s

and

15 A300B2/B4

are still active in passenger service.

In Europe there's only Monarch left.

Monarch have some cheap fares Ex LGW so easy to get on those whilst you can. Saw this one at LGW last week.

My last two flights have been on MU A300s, between SHA & SZX. Not just the cheapest means for me (west Jiangsu) to Hong Kong, I get to ride in A300s.

Thai have some other 'nail on' routes other than SHA/SZX & SHA/CAN for the A300- PNH, RGN, KKC, and others ex BKK with Thai Airlines Internatinal.

IMHO, Asia is the golden land for A300s at present.

For the A300-B2 and -B4 variants, only Iran Air and Mahan Air still have them in service.

I was fortunate enough to fly an Iran Air A300-B4 from BOM to IKA three weeks ago. It was one of the ex-KarAir / Finnair / Air Scandic machines which I remember well when it was based in the UK with Air Scandic. The Iran Air -B2s and -B4s are also still used domestically in Iran.

Mahan Air operate the oldest active A300 (and indeed the oldest active Airbus) in the world in the form of EP-MHF. This is primarily used on domestic flights from THR.

I think Kar Air A300s are among the few with no flight engineer, only 2 pilots, like ex-Tunisair TS-IMA... scrapped in the US in 2001 :'(

I guess in 5 years only the Iranians will still fly them, freighters excluded. So hurry up if you want to ride on one. I´ve been on LHs A300s so often I cant remember it anymore. They were better than any shorthaul plane of today, shame widebodies arent built for short flights anymore.

Three months or so ago I flew on an MU A300 from Guangzhou to Shanghai Hongqiao. Nice to go on one again before they disappear, but in reality, they don't have anything particularly distinguishable about them from inside.

TG is down to 6 now, with the rest being retired by the end of 2014 (or early 2015 as the case may be). Still a bit of time left to catch one.

The A300B4-200FF ? Not many were made. Garuda launched the FF on the 300B4-220FF, and KarAir is the only one who ordered the B4-200FF... who else ordered the GE powered B4-200FF? (and who else ordered the B4-220 (JT9D) or B4-220FF?)

Ah OK... so B4-220 went to Garuda (-220FF) and China Airlines (-220 3 man crew), and -200FF to Tunisair, VASP and KarAir then....

Thanks...

Did any of AA’s A300-600’s find new homes after AA retired them a few years ago or did they go to the scrappers?

My suggestion would be Kuwait Airways (within Europe, considering the origin of the OP). They aren't up to date, but that gives the whole experience the right feeling of a "travel through time". Even their business class is quite affordable. Route for example FCO-CDG (and vice versa). Did it last year, very nice flights. To me, KU gives the better "legacy carrier" experience over Monarch. And they are not 9-abreast...

They appear to be the only 2 of AA's 35 A300s that flew again after retirement by AA.

Are all four Monarch not still in service?

G-MAJS
G-OJMR
G-MONR
G-MONS

I've flown on MAJS and MONR, really enjoyed those flights DUB-TFS-DUB a few years ago.

The best chance for A300s is Iran, lots of them operate on domestic services. They have all variants. Especially the older ones are appealing. The A300-600R still is more like a stretched A310 rather than an A300  ... And a single ticket will cost some 25EUR, including a hot meal and drinks! If you plan well, you can fly about 25 times in a week in Iran for less than 1000 EUR. I really want to go back only for some 15 flights on A300s and A310s, and another 10 or so on B727 and IrAn-140.

While cathing one of the last flights of Sahas B707 this May, I was also lucky to get a ride on EP-MHF (Mahan), which is the oldest A300 still in service (cn 55 I think). But it is in very good shape, especially inside, you dont feel the age of this airframe at all.

Here some videos of the flight in Iran:

Be sure to walk to the very aft of the cabin. Monarch's AB6's don't have cabin dividers or bulkheads so you can look all the way forward! The extra legroom seats are definitely a good investment as it is indeed very cramped and uncomfortable in the back. Enjoy!

No, Thailand is the best chance for an A300. Not sure what the visa requirements are for Iran but Thailand is a much easier and safer destination. Plenty of daily A300 flights here on Thai Airways.

As CrimsonNL has stated, Monarch A300-600s don't have any cabin class dividers and are the only wide body I have flown on where you could appreciate the true size of the interior cabin. Looking back from the front you see an amazing array of faces like in the cinema! Like the whole A300/310/330/340 family, the floor even slopes up towards the rear. Quite unusual.

NOOOOO!

I thought two were remaining, until October 2013... I'd better get booking a trip!

Monarch have done a great job looking after these birds over the years, espcecially when you consider they are 20-25yrs old! These A300's must be some of the most hard worked widebodies in the industry! Airlines like Monarch, really make them work hard, especially during the summer months, when they can be flying for up to 18-20hrs a day and nights.

I find it pretty amazing how Monarch can turnaround a 360 seater aircraft in under an hour... When it use to come into Luton, it would regularly be back up in the air within 45-50 minutes of arriving!

Considering how old they are, they definately do not show their age!

While a fully packed Monarch A300 is not the most comfiest ways to fly, in a 3-3-3 config and 29 inches of leg room. I definately also have a soft spot for them. Similarly when I flew Air Transat's A310's MAN-YYZ last year, had a great trip!

All,

MU's A300s have started to go travelling. There are six active passenger airplanes left. At the moment, two tend to be in the south; Shenzhen, Guangzhou and, for the first time in a while, today, Xiamen; whereas the other four are in the north and west; Beijing, Xi'an, Chengdu, Dalian, Urumqi. The relocation to the north and west is very recent; this week.

I'm not going to argue with someone who posts that Iran is the place for A300s. However, if you have access to Flightaware and aspire to flying on the model in the coming months, well, with the 72 hour visa waiver for many countries, China is so easy to catch a flight on an A300.
