Cargolux To Detroit Metro

Mon Jun 17, 2013 12:06 pm

It appears Cargolux has begun scheduled service between DTW and LUX.

Does anyone have more info on frequency or if we can expect to see a 747-8 on the route?

That's awesome, I didn't even know they were going to be doing a scheduled flight. It sure would be cool to see a 8 on this one, I would imagine at some point just as an equipment sub.

Cargolux's website doesn't show DTW as a destination. Might CLX 320 be a charter?

This reminds me of a video tape made in the 90s when DVD's didn't exist. One of the "Flight in the cockpit" tapes was about a Cargolux 747-200 Series flying from LUX to DTW with an intermediate stop in JFK. On that tape there was also a brief history of Cargolux with the beginning of their operations and the aircraft they flew prior to flying the 747: the CL-44 and the DC-8. Nice footage.

Not to try and disappoint anyone, but three-digit Cargolux flights are usually charter flights. Most scheduled flights have four digits. Perhaps a series of charters to test the market, perhaps a multi-flights contract.

There are possibly 4 more flights for the week, purely charters for car parts.

No, that is not true. While they may file 4 digit flight plans, that is merely for planning purposes, with the last digit being the day of the week. They always actually fly with 3 digit flight numbers.

The only difference between their regular flights and this one to Detroit is the fact that it's in the 300's when most of theirs are in the 600 and 700's.

The flights to LCK might be charters by one of our clients in the Columbus area that does logistics/freight forwarding services. I seem to remember one of their guys mentioning they would be using Cargolux a lot.
