Wow, crazy. Here's to hoping it's just a crazy passenger. Can't imagine any way it would actually be possible for a passenger to "poison everyone".

Plus, I didn't know they had the 787 on the HKG route...Glad the Daily Mail has educated me

(Sarcasm, of course)

The biggest mistake made by most human beings: Listening to only half, understanding just a quarter and telling double.

Not if he managed to get down to the cargo hold, force open a door (as alleged to be possible by a wise poster here on another thread a while back) and parachute out.

I hope he will be hand cuffed by aircraft captain's order.

This is insane. How would he have every passenger on the flight poisoned I wonder??

 Wow!

Having had the misfortune of finding myself on a plane with more than a hundred Manchester United football fans returning home from Madrid who had watched a football game the previous evening and stayed up all night drinking, I can assure you it is possible for a pax to 'poison' everyone on board... even if the effects are not harmful or long-lasting

Thread on Flyertalk - there seems to be no FTer on board - which is rather unusual. I always appreciate their sense of humour!

Lunatic Passenger on UA 116 from HKG

False alarm. The guy was mentally ill and nobody was poisoned.

Airlines already do a pretty god job at it with the crap they serve passengers some times

Maybe they ate the fish?

No kidding. A few years ago Around 60 passengers got cholera on an AR 747 LIM-LAX where AR had the brilliant idea to cater the aircraft in LIM amidst the cholera epidemic there. I believe two died.

Does the FBI maintain an office at major airports or do they just high tail it down the expressway every time some nut pulls a stunt like this? These sorts of calls probably disrupt the entire day of the special agents involved given the traffic and processing all paperwork.

I wouldn't call doing one's job, a disruption   It is their job after all.

Don't think they have an office at airports but wouldn't be surprised if they have an agent or a few based in the airport with DHS. I'm sure they enjoy using their SUVs lights and sirens anyway. Agents don't get to that stuff as much as TV would have you to believe.

No, they'll just ban all food service since it could possibly be used as a transmission device for an infection.

This story is not totally inaccurate, the local CBS 2 NY station got the information from passengers as they exited the airport (they were interviewed).

Here's what passengers reported:

A man claimed to be under surveillance by the CIA, NSA etc.. He also was complaining that he was poisoned by a poison dart. He didn't claim he poisoned everyone else's food. He claimed he was poisoned by the NSA, CIA etc..

In the case of EWR, the FBI has it's main office for New Jersey in Newark, about 4 miles north of the airport. They could get there very quickly.

I am concerned more mentally ill, drunks and druggies being on a flight than terrorists. We have has apparently 3 'false alarm' threats in the last week. I hope these threats don't encourage more to do them, perhaps as a form of terrorism or attention.

Yes, exactly the knee-jerk reaction the 'free world' needs. There are millions of people all over the world with a variety of mental health problems, and unfortunately, these are on occasion unpredictable. Crew are more than capable of handling the majority of these, however scary it might initially appear.

You can't 100% control who gets on an aircraft, and how they'll behave. By far the biggest factor in onboard violence/disturbance is alcohol anyway.
