Uniteds 787 Fleet Type Mix

Tue Jun 18, 2013 10:51 am

With UA being announced as the North American launch customer for the 787-10 UA put out a press release stating that they have 65 787 either on order or in service. Along with 10 incremental orders for the 787-10 they converted 10 existing 787 orders to the -10. Anyone know specifically what the number of each type on order would be? I am assuming that they converted -8s to -10s but there is also a 5 frame order, from some time ago that seemed to not be reported on here/ was that for the -9?

787-10 0/20
787-9 0/19?
787-8 6/20?

I think the issue is with the 787-9s, previously it was 14. You posted 19, where did you see 19 787-9s on order?

6 sCO 787-8s in service
5 sCO to be delivered
14 sCO 787-9s
15 sUA 787-8s
20 787-10s

Change the 14 787-9s to 19 787-9s and there you have your 65.

So if those additional five 787-9s is accurate UA actualy added 15 787s to their existing order., impressive.

pmCO (across 2 orders) ordered 25 (13x 8's - 12x 9's)+ 25 options (http://www.boeing.com/news/releases/2007/q1/070312d_nr.html)
pmUA ordered 25 (all 8's))+ 50 options (http://boeing.mediaroom.com/index.php?s=43&item=1090)
So total prior to this was 50 firm orders.

So with this United goes to 65 firm, adds 15 new firm.

Where some of these conversions of options? I bet so.

Exactly right, somehow they added 5 other units. Boeing's website states only 50

787-8 GE 30-Jun-2005 11
787-8 19-Feb-2010 25 - 25
787-9 GE 06-Jun-2006 14
787 Total 50

I was going to guess that they converted 10 of the PMUA 788's from 2018 and 2019 to 787-10's, but that may not be right. Wonder why they didn't just say we ordered 15 new 787-10's and converted 5 orders vs. 10 new, 10 conversions and 5 789 adds?

So, at the end of the day we have?

788's = 26
789's = 19
781's = 20

From GE's engine announcement:

"The engine order for the 35 aircraft plus five firmed aircraft options from last year"

Possibly the 1x 788 + 4x 789 GE order listed as undisclosed from Nov. 7th?

That's it, so we just need confirmation on the mix but that November order looks like it would fit.

Assuming they took the 10 conversions from the 788's and the above is correct, they'd have:

788's = 27
789's = 18
781's = 20

Does this order solidify the fact that UA will go w/the A350-1000 for the 744 replacements?
