China Airlines Second Flight To SFO?

Tue Jun 25, 2013 1:14 am

Hello!

My apologies if this was covered earlier; I did a search but couldn't readily find anything on this subject. Hopefully I don't get screamed at (again)

Last night, I noticed two China Airlines aircraft at the International Terminal A at SFO. Upon looking around FlightView's list of CI flights between TPE and SFO, it looks like CI's started flying more than 7 flights on this route per week. From what I can tell, CI 4 (a 747) is operating daily as per usual, but they've added an A340 (CI 2004) at least twice...I saw it listed on Wednesday as well as the Sunday flight that I witnessed. At first, I thought this was a one-off, but it looks like they may be doing this regularly.

Just out of curiosity, what's the frequency of the second flight, and is this a seasonal thing, or will they be running it permanently?

Thanks in advance!

It's was a short stint for about a month. Next Sunday is the final schedule before it gets back to normal with daily 744.

What would be a wonderful sight to see CI A340 at SFO! To me, the CI livery looks great on A340, more so than A330.
Is this additional flight to cater for summer peak traffic?
I wonder, the same route, using A340, how much longer would be the flight time as compared with B747?

There wouldn't be much to see since CI is one of the last flights out of SFO at 01:20.

I think EVA operates 12x weekly at the moment and UA will resume next year as well... Lots of lift to Taiwan...

30 min if you look at their schedule for SFO-TPE, 12hr 35 min by 744 vs 13hr 5 min by A343

And you wont see any anymore after next year when the 77Ws get delivered and replace the A343s!

Sad to see the A343 having its days of glory. It is a very quiet plane to be on.
Glad to see CI 77W, must be looking brilliantly good to look at.
