RC525 (LN1479) is on her way to the desert:
http://flightaware.com/live/flight/BOE525

By my count, this makes four brand-new 747-8s currently parked at Pinal. The other three are RC604, RC524, and RC509. RC573 and RC605 will probably join them later this year.

For what its worth, NCA has returned one 744F to the lessor (JA02KZ). The plane has been placed on the N-register.

RC548 should make its first flight later this month, then go to Marana for storage. RC549 will probably follow in her sister's footsteps (tire tracks? wake vortex?).

Observing the actual roll out dates, it seems that the assembly line is already producing airframes at the reduced rate of 1,75 .

Seen the roll-out date of the latest aircraft (L/N1483 - RC561) the assembly line is still producing at the rate of 2 aircraft /month.

According the latest info received, the reduction in assembly rate from 2 to 1,75 aircraft/month will start at L/N1492, 747-830, RC031, serial number 37836, D-ABYL, Lufthansa #10, scheduled delivery end of January 2014

This particular airframe is also the first 747-8I scheduled to be delivered with all three major upgrades* certified and active.

* Upgrades :

- GEnx-2B67/P1 engines installed ( /P1 = PIP engine)
- Tail fuel tank activated
- Software update (3.0) for the Honeywell New Generation Flight Management System (NGFMS).

New builds, Boeing just added two "mystery" 747-8F aircraft to the firing order :

L/N 1501 - 747-8xxF, RC671, unknown customer (Silk Way ?) #1, Boeing operator code : 662

L/N 1502 - 747-8xxF, RC672, unknown customer (Silk Way ?) #2, Boeing operator code : 662

Also the next 747-8I was added :

L/N 1503 - 747-830, RC036, serial number 37841, D-ABYR, Lufthansa #15

According the 747-8F order list the only two remaining new customers (no aircraft delivered yet) are GECAS and Silk Way, both with an order for two, so :

L/N 1493 and 1496 could be for GECAS , L/N1501 and 1502 for Silk Way.

Or the reverse : :

L/N 1493 and 1496 for Silk Way and L/N 1501 and 1502 for GECAS.

We simply don't know (yet), because for both "dual" orders the (internal) Boeing Operator Codes are still in digits (645 and 662) . Both operator codes will be changed later by Boeing into a final three letter code, when " the time is right" , because that three letter code will certainly revail the GECAS order

I have no idea, seen the present depressed cargo market. Perhaps Etihad Cargo (expansion), Saudia Cargo (BCF replacement) or even Emirates Sky Cargo (replacing the leased TNT 747-400ERF aircraft)

The Silk Way MoU was for four 747-8F aircraft, two are firmed now.
IMHO a wise move, seen the present uncertaincy in the maindeck cargo market.

How many completed 747-8F have now been flown out of Everett into storage?

Four, there is a sheet with info available on http://747-8.blogspot.com/

That number will probably double by end the year. RC573, RC548, RC605 and RC549 will most likely join their sisters for a prolonged sunning in the desert.

And perhaps even RC526, RC527, RC528 (3x NCA) and RC510, RC510 (2x Cargolux).

News about L/N 1478 - RC509, Cargolux #9, ferried to Pinal Airpark (KMZJ) for storage at June 21, 2013 :

Cargolux traffic seems to be on the rise again, with a half year volume boost of 13%, also the union problems seem to have been solved.
"Cargolux has deferred delivery of one of its new 747-8Fs, which is to join the fleet in the next two to three months, while one of its 747-400s left the fleet this week for heavy maintenance, and will then be returned to its lessor. Cargolux has kept another of its 747-400s, which was due to be returned."

Why would they store an airplane in the desert for only 2 or 3 months? Boeing has enough storage place at PAE.

Dry is easier storage than damp. While it rains less in July and August in the Pacific Northwest the conditions of the desert and dry is much easier on the electronics and systems. In the desert you have to protect from dust that is easier.

I think its "Hannover", taken from D-ABVK. LH has begun to remove names from older, still active 744s and transfer them to 748s.

The first picture in the A-net data base of one of the stored NCA 747-8KZF aircraft in the desert.

RC561* seems to have left the assembly line without engines, just like RC605. Why is this?

* Both frames don't have a visible registration so I might have switched them.

All three aircraft (RC605,RC561 and 562) have been initially produced without engines, because all three are scheduled to be delivered in November and December 2013 (just before the increased cargo demand before the Christmas-New Year period), powered by the hopefully then certified updated GEnx-2B/P1 engines.

At the last update of Matt Cawby's KPAE blog clearly visible the latest two " engineless " Cathay airframes RC561 and 562, see :

The GEnx assembly line has already switched over to produce only updated GEnx-2B67/P1 engines.
Updated Engine certification is expected in a few weeks, with the engine /airframe combination certification scheduled in November 2013.
Only a few original GEnx-2B67B engines remain on stock for spares and July- October aircraft deliveries.
After installation of the first four updated engines at the testbed RC021 - N6067U, the now produced updated engines will be installed at airframes, with a delivery date at the end of 2013. (RC605, etc.)

Probably RC605 has been fitted already with updated engines.

RC605, Landing at Paine Field, after here B1 flight, Monday July 22.
Two earlier attemps, revealing some squaks and resulting in taxi tests only, were made last Friday and Sunday.

Original uploaded by Matt Cawby, see for other sizes : http://www.flickr.com/photos/microvolt/9349856680/

Aircraft data : L/N 1482 - 747-8HVF, RC605, serial number 37670, Air Bridge Cargo( ABC) #5, N959BA, future registration VQ-BRJ, full livery, (GEnx-2B PIP engines installed ?), F/F July 22 2013, KPAE flight line, will be temporally stored, expected delivery : December 2013.

Expected deliveries :

- L/N 1433 - 747-867F, RC553, serial number 39240, Cathay #3, registration B-LJC, full livery, F/F June 23 2013, Ferried to Portland (KPDX)for a paint touch up at July 06 2013, returned at July 16 to KPAE, Scheduled Delivery at the end of July 2013.

- L/N 1480 - 747-830, RC030, serial number 37835, Lufthansa #9, D-ABYK, full livery, KPAE flight line, expected delivery mid August 2013

Thereafter very few or no deliveries are expected before November 2013., because the present low cargo demand and the expected certification of the GEnx-2B PIP/747-8 at the end of November.
In November-December, before the Christmas-New Year assembly line closure, a flurry of deliveries is expected.
