Will AA Eagle's CRJ-700's Return To DFW?

Tue Jul 09, 2013 3:37 pm

I've noticed that American Eagle has no regular scheduled flying for it's CRJ-700s out of DFW. Is this because of the E-175 order by Republic with plans to base those aircraft there or is it something else?

thanks

The ORD MQ CRJ-700s are all moving to JFK and LGA as the YX E175s are delivered and based in ORD (which will be the primary and possibly only YX E175 base). They will not be transferred to DFW or MIA.

That's not to say that DFW won't see larger Eagle RJs. And there are quite a few DFW Eagle routes, both mid-range high-frequency routes and long routes like GRR, FWA, and MKE, that need larger, more efficient planes than the ERJ or CR2. Rumor is that MQ's forthcoming order for CR9s or E175s will all be DFW-based birds; I think EMBRAER has the edge in this order as they can take the ERJs in for trade on E-Jets, much like the DL/9E deal with Bombardier. I also think that AA may be looking into some of SkyWest Holdings's remaining 60 E175s as well (probably for LAX, MIA, and/or DFW), though I'm not sure if they will be flown by OO, EV, or both. And let's not forget the strong possibility of the army of US Airways Express CR7/9s and E-Jets moving to AA hubs as they get repainted in Eagle colors.

And before someone corrects me, yes, YX (the old Midwest designator) is now the IATA code for Republic Airlines, not RW.

Not a done deal, looking over at APC it appears the Eagle pilots must agree to another round of concessions (even though they already agreed to concessions in bankruptcy) in order to get this new order. If they don't, Parker has threatened to shut down the real American Eagle.

Republic was supposed to start flying E-175s out of ORD this month (might have been June actually), but it appears they lack the staffing to start. According to some RAH pilots, it is now supposed to start in October now. We'll see if that happens since they can't staff the Q-400 flying for United now. Like all regionals they are struggling to fill new hire classes.

IIRC, there's one MQ CR7 to DFW per day - from ASE.

dont forget at some point there are going to be alot of CR9's and E70's with the US merger, so we could see some of those shifting to hubs like DFW and MIA.

There is a lone CR7 flight out of DFW to ASE; otherwise its been a number of years (not sure on the exact timeframe but guessing around 2008) since MQ CR7's regularly operated out of DFW.

The general attitude around Eagle is that everyone is fed up enough already. Even senior and mid-seniority captains want to board the place up and shut it down; no regional is worth what Parker wants to do. And management already knows where these planes are going and we'd be fools to take more cuts and give in to these scare tactics.

You could probably get jobs at OO or YV

I'd agree with that, especially given what they are offering. My understanding, and correct me if I'm wrong because I get my information second hand, is that in exchange for all of these cuts you guys will get 60 new aircraft. So in exchange for the introduction of B-scale (a cancer that will eventually spread everywhere in the industry) you will eventually have a fleet more than 50% smaller than it currently is (once all the ERJs are gone). That's a tough choice but I don't see any benefit to voting for those concessions.

Good luck to all of you, I've always liked Eagle pilots.
