TAP To JFK

Fri Oct 27, 2000 11:58 am

Since TWA will no longer flying JFK to LIS, TAP Air Portugal will be the only airline left to serve this route. They currently use the A310 on this route but could this be too small a plane, especially during the summer? I know that in 2002 or 2003 they will have A330s replacing the current A310s, but what will they do until then? Will they use the A340 on the to fly to JFK?

What about Continental? Didn´t they fly to LIS as well? Ok, they don´t serve JFK but Newark, but there should be a choice on this route. At least I saw one of their 757 two years ago when I was in LIS.

Hi!

TAP will keep flying with the A310-300 until next year when they start to received the new A330-200's. TAP will not fly ( at least regulary ) with the A340-300. That plane is schedule to fly to Brazil, Caribe and Africa.
At least 2 of the A310-300 are currently beeing negociated with Portuguese Air Force, the rest I don't know but they might be repurchased by Airbus. About TAP service it's hard to me to accept that TAP as a terrible first class, I flew quite a while with them in the past and I can't complain about that, perhaps they had a bad particular time or they didn't appreciate the true portuguese cuisine!!!!
About Continental I think they could fill the space perhaps operating with another plane, a 767!

They flew the highest service class available I think it was C class-Incidentally, they hated Portugal when they were there-I don't know if it was related to them not liking TAP?

Hello,

That's quite interesting to see that a European airline doesn't use its one of its largest aircraft on the US.

For now, I can't think of any other (IB for example uses its 747-200s on MIA)

On what routes do they need their A340s tahta much? LIS-GRU, LIS-GIG, ... ?
How many A340s do they have?

Best regards,

TAP has only 4 A340...
By the way, there's their fleet:

4 A340
5 A310
1 A321
7 A320
16 A319

The TAP A340s are used to fly to several destinations:
In Africa to Johannesburg, Luanda, Maputo and Sal.
In the Americas they fly to Caracas, Punta Caña, Rio de Janeiro, São Paulo and Varadero.
In Europe they are used to fly to London.

A310s around the world are quickly being retired and replaced from many airlines. Univerally, they seem to be in terrible shape. SIA's A310s will be gone soon, and AF and LH are looking to lose thier's also. Wouldn't it be great if the 757-300 takes its place in Deutsheland?

I think we have to be fair with the A-310.
When it was firstly operated, it gave the opportunity to (relatively) small airlines to operate trans-atlantic flights, or any other long route.
I am reffering to airlines such as TAP, Austrian as well as bigger airlines as Lufthansa and Swissair.

I have flown with the A-310 and I liked it a lot.

This winter, TAP will start to fly to JFK and EWR with A340-300! (Next week)
Nothing is decided yet about what plane will come into the fleet to replace the A310-300.

TAP also uses their A340 on the shortest A340 route in the world. LIS-OPO (Lisabon-Oporto)

-TWA902fly

By the way Aeroflot's biggest aircraft in the USA is the IL-96. They do not fly their biggest 777 to the USA anymore. Those are used to LHR HKG BKK, Beijing and Shanghi

I saw TAP in JFK with their 310's...while I was flying Sabena 340's...

I wouldn't have changed my seat in the 340's ( c-class ) for 2 in the 310's

And this has nothing to make with TAP in general ( I even never flew them ). But I think you can't compare 310 with 340's or even 330's.

Moreover, flying with a 310 in JFK is just giving a real bad picture of your company in an important airport as JFK.
