Norwegian A320 Order Breakdown

Fri Jul 19, 2013 2:40 pm

I read somewhere that DY will start receiving their A320s from 2015. Does anyone know how many they will receive that year and where they will base them?

Norwegian A320 Order Breakdown

Not much is known about the Airbus Aircrafts on order and how and when they will be used. All that is known basically is that Norwegian has a firm order of 100 Airbus A320 Neo's and also options on 50 in adittion to that. The new Airbus aircraft will feature a single class cabin layout, seating approximately 180 passengers.

Thanks! I heard rumors that the plans are to sell the production slots to other airlines instead of taking delivery of the planes themselves. Is this untrue?

Anyway hopefully they will expand at their CPH base with new A320s :P

Manufacturers are not stupid and protect themselves from this with appropriate clauses in the contract.

I doubt they'd be allowed to do that.

Norwegian A320 Order Breakdown

Fri Jul 19, 2013 9:37 pm

Kjos has stated many times that he believes that the backlog will be very large for the foreseeable future. So, I believe he has made large orders from Airbus and Boeing to fit two scenarios.

1. Norwegian continues with large growth and building new markets. They need the planes, and luckily, they have them ordered early enough to not need a large wait.

2. Growth slows down, and Norwegian starts leasing aircraft and go into that sector.

I personally think that the Boeing aircraft are for projected growth, while the Airbus aircraft are for a future leasing division.

I find that hard to beleave. Norwegian might as well have ordered more 737 max then. If the Company can wait let's say 5 - 6 years, I'm sure there was no reason to order Airbus.

Mr. Kjos have said earlier, that by 2022, Norwegian would have between 175 and 200 aircraft in the air, operating. The B 738 that he has been getting for the last few years will be on it's way out of the fleet by then.will have

RE: Norwegian A320 Order Breakdown

I have been wondering about Norwegian's plans myself lately. I asked a question in the Scandinavian thread regarding the classics and NG.

Currently Norwegian has:

66 737-800
10 737-300
1 787-8

According to Boeing.com Norwegian has ordered a total of 100 737-800NG. Remember the strange order for 222 airplanes? Those 22 737-800 got Norwegian's total 737-800NG order up to 100.

So far so good. But when I search for deliveries to Norwegian on Boeing.com I only see 36 being delivered by March 2013. If this is correct, they have 64 orders remaining for the 737-800NG. Is this correct or is the low number of deliveries due to the fact that they have sold some of their new birds to lease them back? Norwegian has 30 more 737-800 in their fleet than has been delivered directly by Boeing.

Someone83 said in the Scandinavian thread that: Looking at their latest quarterly report, it seems like their 737-800s will have a net growth of 11 in 2014 and 6 in 2015 (10 new deliveries and 4 expiring leases), although this is always subject to change.

This gives us 21 airplanes being added in 2014 and 2015. If Boeing's sheet is correct that means we still have 43 737NG unaccounted for. LN-KGL told us that Norwegian got a factory new 737 last week. Now we got 42 more to go. I fail to see that Norwegian has this many 738NG left. Are my numbers incorrect? How many 738NG will they get in 2016, 2017 and 2018?

Norwegian may be going into the a/c leasing business.. .. However they may just be hedging their bets.

OYKIE, the LN-DIx and LN-DOx are leased aircraft and were not ordered by Norwegian. Only the LN-NGx and LN-DYx series aircraft were those ordered by Norwegian and thus part of the Boeing.com listings...

However they have 100 Boeing 737 8 Max on order in adittion to that.

This month in the magazine "Airline Business", the CEO Mr. Kjos is interviewed and he stating that:

"Arrival of Norwegian’s first Max is scheduled for the third quarter of 2017. “Even though we will be launch customer, they will still not be up to speed in production before ‘18, ‘19,” he says. “We need new aircraft before that, and the Neo is available. And the Neo is a very good aircraft.”

Correct, that's what I've been hearing too. On top of that, the first delivery for the A320 NEO is expected in October 2015 (if no delays) and Norwegian is hardly among the first customers on the waiting list.....
