Kinda crazy, actually. I mean, what if she had said no?

In the absence of an ejection seat, declare emergency and land ASAP ?

Nevertheless, a nice move.

That was smooooooth

You can tell though, by looking at the pair, they were destined to be together.

Damn, this is really setting the bar high! (no pun intended haha)
Remember the ATC guy who proposed to his girl on an AC flight ?

That was cool....but lemme throw cold water on this story a little bit. If this was a VFR flight, couldn't this guy get in trouble with the FAA? I mean, he went quite a while without monitoring his nutriments it looked like. Anyways, just curious really.

In VFR condition I think you can go a really long time without monitoring your nutriments.

One of my (many) proposals was on board an AM MD-87. Since the only thing I remember about that one was the flight on the MD-87, you can imagine how that turned out. Still. It was fun and the cabin crew had a great time.

A personal opinion is that people who propose publicly and post these intimate private things, are either hiding some deep insecurity or deserve ultimate rejection............or both.

When I first read the title, I thought it was a commercial pilot faking an emergency and diverting to purpose.

That would be an awesome How-I-got-fired story!

Oh dear. Ladies and gents, please give a big hand for our chief party-pooper, AFGMEL.

Come oooon man, you can't be serious? Sure that might be true for some people, but I'm equally sure that for others they just want to give the person they love a huge surprise, and do it in style. There's nothing wrong with the occasional grand, romantic gesture. Without wishing to offend you, I would suggest that failing to see any possible positive side of such gestures is actually more telling than taking a bit of risk in the name of romance and love. Frankly, when it works out, I'm nothing but pleased and impressed by some of the cooler proposals - particularly the Canadian ATC one.

That was sweet. Another great way to propose. They really do like they were meant for each other.

Quoting AFGMEL (Reply 8):

Gonna pop in here but by the comment it's as if you were once rejected when proposing and, therefore, others should not do the same. Lighten up, man. Some people prefer intimacy and others go big. Of course, the former only allows people to talk behind your back (if you're OK with the relation, why keep it a secret?)

One wonders why - after he went to all the trouble with camera, fake checklist, headsets w/boom mic etc - he did not capture the audio?

Otherwise cool...

I think it was actually horrible... to scare someone like that. I know it ended well, but for those few minutes before the proposition, she was scared. And that's really not cool.

I have seen many proposals at major league baseball games. I have also seen several proposals, on banners, being towed behind planes.

We dont know if she is a fearfull or unflappable flyer but it doesnt appear she was petrified so let them have their fun.
Nothing unsafe was done so I say good for him and her. Best wishes to both of them. It was kinda cute.
BTW a good VFR should be spending the vast majority of his time NOT looking at his flight instruments. All my students are taught attitude flying and can manuever and land a small aircraft without flight instruments. Not to say that they are not taught the use use of available flight instruments though.

Really? What has this got to do with the price of tea in China? What if it was raining, what it was the 3rd of February, what if was at Newport Oregon. Not sure I see the relevance to the discusssion.

I during the kissing that took place immediately after she said yes, I could hear my old flight instructor yelling "Scan for traffic...SCAN FOR TRAFFIC!!!"

First let me say just like two of the posters here, I was expecting to read about a commercial pilot making a fake emergency landing. I was thinking what if the pilot had a co-pilot who also happened to be his girlfriend and the pilot decided to do emergency procedures and later proposed once everyone was off.

While that situation is extremely unlikely, it would be better that the title of the thread be clarified.

And yes, I may have to agree with some of the other posters that it might have made a good "how I got fired" poster.

A couple of you are way too uptight.

It was a creative, memorable way to propose. I think it was a pretty awesome way to do it. As a flight instructor, I have no problem with it.

Yeah, I also thought it was a commercial pilot faking an emergency so that he could propose to his girlfriend!

She didn't look all that scared when she was told to read the emergency checklist, so I think it worked out perfectly! It seems like with millions of people getting engaged every day, finding a new way is hard work, but this was pretty clever. I thought it was awesome!

Yep, what do I know?

If people worked on their relationships as much as the "romance" of courtship, perhaps the divorce figures wouldn't be so high.....

And maybe, just maybe, a few people out there achieve both? I know through bitter experience that relationships aren't all a bed of roses, and that they take hard work, but why tar everyone out their with the negative brush? Ok, stats say a lot, but maybe just stop judging every single person. Some people do actually manage to have a wonderful time, grand gestures, stability and all.

Yeah she did. She looks as if she is struggling to remain calm, but succeeding.
