Turkish Airlines Exercises A330 Options

Tue Jul 30, 2013 11:09 am

Following its recent firming of more 77W orders, Turkish Airlines today in a regulatory filing with the Istanbul Stock Exchange stated it has exercised option on 3 additional A330-300 aircraft for delivery in 2015-2016. In January TK previously exercised 5 additional A333 options for 2014-2016 delivery.

This follow on would bring the A330-300 fleet to 33 by 2016.

Great!
This is on top of the 6 in 2015, and 5 x in 2016 A333 deliveries.
It is always amazing to see IST absorbing all this new metal year after year.
Next two years brings close to 25 A333/77Ws and 15 NB to this already busy hub.

Wow, that would make them the 3rd largest operator of the type after Air China & Cathay Pacific.

I also noticed they in June signed a leaseing agreemnt for 3 A330-200 for 6 six year. Is this the three x-Gulf Air?

What do you mean with "type", the A330 family or the A330-300? Because Cathay Pacific only operate the -300 and Air China only has 11 A333s. TK on the other hand has another 14 -200 models in the fleet, plus 4 on order.

> CX: 22x A333 (plus 12 on order)
> CA: 26x A332 (plus 4 on order) + 11x A330 (plus 3 on order)
> TK: 8x A332 (plus 3 on order) + 6x A332F (plus 1 on order) + 10x A333 (plus 23 on order)

To become:

> CX: 34x A333
> CA: 30x A332 + 14x A333 = 44
> TK: 11x A332 + 7x A332F + 33x A333 = 51

So depending on you definition of "type", TK will become the largest A330 operator, or the 2nd largest A333 operator.

I was referring to A330 fleets, not -300s specifically, but then miscounted!

Quoting LAXintl (Thread starter):
In January TK previously exercised 5 additional A333 options for 2014-2016 delivery.

Only two -300s were firm ordered in Jan (with three options), taking their total on order to 27 with 10 delivered. This 'order' will presumably be the firming of the three options they took in January.

Our Incorporation has decided to convert the options for three A330-300 aircraft that have been purchased from Airbus to firm orders to be delivered in 2015-2016.

So, I make that a total of 30 x -300 on order (with 10 already delivered).

I think you've over-counted by 3 x -300. I make the grand total (11 x -200, 7 x F, 30 x -300) = 48.

Still a big fleet in anyone's book!

Well, it is like yesterday when they ordered the first 5 A332s. When was it, 2004?

They order and take so many airplanes that it is no longer exciting

This is the first I hear that TK has 332s on order. As far as I know TK's long haul fleet is based on 333/77W and 343/332 leaving the fleet in 4-5 years. (some older 343 were already on sale but some 332s might stay a bit longer)

I confuse CX and SQ together, sorry. SQ will "only" have 34 A330s.

> CX: 40x A333 + 9 on order
> CA: 26x A332 + 4 on order + 11x A330 + 3 on order
> TK: 8x A332 + 3 on order + 6x A332F + 1 on order + 10x A333 + 20 on order

To become:

> CX: 49
> TK: 48
> CA: 44

Still impressive though.

Three old A332s are planned to enter the fleet:

> MSN 527, ex-Gulf Air A9C-KG, to be TC-JNU
> MSN 529, ex-Gulf Air A9C‑KH, to be TC-JNV
> MSN 532, ex-Gulf Air A9C‑KI, to be TC-JNY

These will be leased from ILFC.

I never said it was a new order, just that they are "on order". I think we have a different definition of "on order", in this case I meant on order with ILFC.

It is impressive indeed    And it was even more recent they tested the waters with a couple of leased 77W's, and with the recent order for 5 they will eventually 32 of those as well

It's just a matter of when IST will have the necessary infrastructure ready, and we will see TK ordering A380s in huge quantities as well, perhaps they'll try it out with a lease from Doric first    A350s and 777X could very well be in their fleet plans on the longer term.
