Definitely a choice few who get to take this flight, I'll say it's O/D and more business than leisure, unless that is your R&R.

We work these flights out at Jax center. They have been doing these flights for awhile now. I want to say Continental was flying it before the merger. I believe I've also seen DL fly it as well.

Some would argue that the flight did its job. Stimulate interest in Cayman in The DFW area by virture of KX advertising and make AA play closer attention to DFW-GCM.

KX (aka the Cayman Gov't) have been trying the same experiment in PTY but CM isn't paying much attention

So I guess the big question is where is the "next target". DEN? MEX?

KX would fail in DEN more quickly than DFW. F9 might have flown it in the past, but the high end market doesn't work with a ULCC.

Yeah, I wonder if I can book it as a mileage run. I'll try it and report back on A.net. I'll get some great photos.

How often does LH fly this route, and with what equipment? That might answer a lot.

You'd think WP would be doing well against Mokulele, which has like 8 or 9 flights a day in the market. Maybe not. Although Makani Kai just started 5 flights a day in this market.

Ohana still hasn't loaded any flights.

I think you miss the point. It is not that if they will fail, because they will. The object is to raise awareness. Why subsidise a route for another carrier, when you can get your own carrier to start the route, provide local jobs, pay for the advertising of Cayman in those markets and then ultimately get the legacy in that market to take notice and respond with their own flight. Then you move on to the next target "market".

It is actually a pretty shrewd move.

I wouldn't go so far as to say that their business model is changing. They have been running SFB-ABE daily for some time now. BLI-LAS has also been running 27x weekly (1x daily and two other 5x weekly rotations). Just a few that I can think of.
The views I express are my own and do not reflect the views and opinions of my company.

Hmmmmm.... a few frequencies in season might actually work......... there are some adventurous souls in the area that would bite........ but I agree, a daily, year round frequency here would most likely be not the most productive use of aircraft for KX......

Colorado is actually a big dive market to the Caribbean and Cayman is a decent dive draw. UA has never wanted to exploit the market because DEN-Caribbean basically overflies IAH. But as mentioned in an earlier post KX's motives may be different than just profit.

It would certainly be nice to have some reasonable flight times. My parents have been going to the Caribbean more, and they either have to fly red eyes to not lose entire days, or go way out to New York and arrive late at night after 10+ hours of travel. American only has one flight to MIA, and for some reason you cannot connect on UA through IAH to every destination every day. I know Coloradoans go to Mexico, but one or two routes to the Caribbean seem like they would be possible. Maybe when Southwest starts their San Juan route there will be reasonable connections.

If a route is daily for G4 is has to be EXTREMELY profitable. They won't fly their planes if they aren't making $$$

Interesting cut. I know that it is most likely seasonal adjustment, but it is one of the biggest cuts listed (along with DAY). A wonder why GSO is cut proportionally more than other similar sized markets?

Is EWR on a use 'em or lose 'em basis with slots? Or can these slots just go unused for a while? Either way, less congestion out of EWR is not something I'm going to fight!!

Not to mention some awesome complimentary water activities

Haha wow

Anyway looks like RJ is cutting back more too - are they gonna eventually go the way of OK, MA etc and just have to cut transoceanic service? Doesn't ORD-AMM bleed money for them? Too bad - I rather enjoyed my one flight on RJ last year.

Very telling imo

Well, you are right. What I just noticed is that they didn't delay it 90 days, the reversed it. That is particularly interesting in that it shows a degree of pessimism, although the original move was stupid and ill-timed.

Great point. More examples of G4's changing model.

I wouldn't go so far as to say that their business model is changing. They have been running SFB-ABE daily for some time now. BLI-LAS has also been running 27x weekly (1x daily and two other 5x weekly rotations). Just a few that I can think of.

I just think coupled with the Hawaii and now bigger cities as spokes constitute a lot of changes.

No disrespect to Jacksonville, but there must be some place better than that for R&R from Gitmo.

They'd probably run it out of NQX, but I'm guessing NIP has better logistical support.

According to Wikipedia, Jacksonville Mayport/NAS is the place to fill your shopping bags and/or run into town to Dillard's or Five Guys or Coldstone Creamery before flying back to Gitmo.

"Support facilities include an additional outlying field (OLF Whitehouse) for pilot training, a maintenance depot employing more than 150 different trade skills capable of performing maintenance as basic as changing a tire to intricate micro-electronics or total engine disassembly, a Naval Hospital, a Fleet Industrial Supply Center, a Navy Family Service Center, a DeCA commissary, Navy Exchange, and recreational facilities for both single sailors and families of the Active, Reserve and Retired military communities."

NQX, on Boca Chica Key, appears to have much more modest off-base operations. I'm guessing the commissary and rec facilities at NAS Key West are already maxed by on-base family use.

I guess it worked in BOS since US weekly service came about when KX left and was then followed by B6 Weekly service.

same at IAH too. KX flew the route until CO started it.
When in doubt, hold on to your altitude. No-one has ever collided with the sky.
