A brazilian passanger from GRU heading to Bali via DOH was prevented to board the flight because after she answered a security questionaire her father made a "T" word joke and she was prevented to check-in due security issues.

The whole article is at the link below in portuguese:

That's a shame. Unfortunately he did not know you really shouldn't say words like that in an airport... even as a joke, it's just common sense.
The act of "driving" is only possible with a manual transmission.

They are lucky they were in Brazil and she was only banned from flying... in some other countries in NA they would have been detained and questioned.

"Terrorist" Her father said in poertuguese aftes the questionary check: "Fortunatly they don't see you as a terrorist". Then the airline security prevented her to board. I agree with then, brazilians always want to make innapropriate jokes at the wrong time and place.

Some time ago just after 9/11 two brazilian surfers were deported from US because when they were asked what they had inside their surf board covers, they said "we have a bomb".

Kind of a dumb question, if I had a bomb I certainly wouldn't tell.

Brazilians joke about everything. That's why you'll always come across Brazilians joking about situations like that at an airport.
For a Brazilian, if you ask if he or she is carrying explosives, it's because you're either suspecting that they are or you are joking. Nevertheless, they know that such questions could be asked nowadays, but the situation in a Brazilian finds himself when asked such a question does not feel less absurd because of that. That's why many Brazilians joke about it, laugh of at least grin.

I know a few instances where Arabs would reach British immigration and they would ask them "Whats the purpose of your visit". They would say "terrorism" meaning "tourism". Obviously they did not mean that, but cannot pronounce the word "tourism"

Really stupid reaction and rule, a terrorist is the last person who would say so ! Just screen them again if you must but that's it.

If one can be fully satisfied that it really was just a stupid joke from an inexperienced traveler, then I would suggest that a stern talking to from the authorities would be more the order of the day. We shouldn't take these sorts of things too lightly, because there are aften strict rules and protocols to be followed, putting staff of various kinds in difficult positions when foolish pronouncements like these are made. But, as I say - a good deal of embarrassment and a firm bollocking should be enough to ensure he's not silly enough to do it again, with strict screening and questioning ensuring that he presents no actual danger.

+1

The people at the counter do not know the passenger and cannot distinguish between whether they were joking or not. The saftey of the aircraft and its passengers/crew is of the utmost importance in airport security world wide and is not taken lightly.

I wouldnt want to ride in a plane where a passenger joked about having a bomb.
