Airbus posted a video of yesterday's formation flight with the A330, A350XWB and A380 flight test aircraft.
What do you think?

Very nice video - thanks for sharing. The A350 grows on me every time I see it fly.

The formation break was impressive...

I noticed on the video that crew all put parachutes on. If the aircraft did experience trouble, I doubt the crew could have safely left the aircraft.

Yeah that was nice. I think they finally have a elegant plane in the 350.

One of the pilots once explained that they will probably not leave the plane but rather try to (crash) land it. The parachutes and jumpsuits are more a formality to ensure the authorities.

Haven't seen any parachutes in this video! Are you refering to the other videos of the A350 FF?

By the way... very cool video... they even have time to do such flying with their first test aircraft!

I'd rather have a parachute and not be able to use it than not have a parachute and wish I had one because I could use it.

Very cool video. Thank you for sharing that. Always neat to see such large aircraft in formation.

Beautiful video but it has to be said: when trotting out the 350, Airbus should leave the 330 in the shed. Rule of thumb: when you introduce your second daughter to a nice eligible bachelor, don't bring the hot older sister along.

The A330 is still the prettiest of all 3, if I'm honest with myself. As much as I want to like the A350's look, I still prefer the A300 legacy lines...

The A330 will always be a beauty. But I like the A350 more and more every time I see it. Especially those wings and wing tips are glorious.

Nothing wrong with the A330 but she looks a bit fat compared to the A350.

I have to agree with you, prior to this I wasn't quite a fan of the 350's nose but the comparison to the 330....i'm loving the look even more. It has smoother contours and just looks sexier.....IMO

Delta thinks the older sister still has plenty of life left in her, plus she won't be as expensive--

Impressive line up.

I was searching for any videos of a Boeing multiple commercial aircraft lineup in formation flying.

awesome vid, all three look great. However, of the three, the A330 looks the best. The look of an A330 landing is just sexy lol

I think the A350 would look epic if they made the main landing gears toe up (like the A330). Any idea why they didn't bother doing so?

Though I've heard the A330's bogey geometry make it a bit awkward to land.

i've heard the reason why Boeing has them toed up on the 777 and 787 is because pilots have commented that touchdowns feel weird when the MLGs are toed down.

I was thinking maybe A didn't bother adding a mechanism since it might have led to a weight gain. who knows!

At about 1:15 in the video, what's coming out of the bottom of No.4 engine on the A380 as it takes off?

Can Boeing match this trinity at all?

I mean, I love the 747, but -8 is not doing so well. In the other 2 other classes the winner is not so clear. But bundling them together, A can really make a nice fleet with easier pilot transition as compared to a mixed fleet of say A380 and 787...

I really can't decide on the A350. From some angles it looks good, from other angles it looks very bad. I just have a feeling they could have made it look a lot better looking.

I felt kind of sorry for the A380 during the take off run..."*om om Homer Simpson eating noises*...I'm coming too!"

As for the A350...meh...I'm trying to like it...I'll see how I feel when EI's come on line.

Not sure about other Airbus types, but the A380 prototype had a special escape chute built in which permitted the crew to quickly escape from the aircraft through a tube that connected to an external hatch. There are photos of it somewhere.

The Bombardier CSeries prototype also seems to have something similar. Video showing testing/training of the crew evacuation/bail out system. Also includes good views of the interior of the first aircraft with all the test equipment.

Maybe it's just me - but after looking at the video again and again i am puzzled that the A359 does NOT look bigger than the A332. Even more, the 332 seems to make a more... fatty appearance.

Maybe this is a visual illusion. Much like the B788 which seems to be small because of the bigger windows.
It could be that the 359 looks lean and sleak because its engine nacelles are by far bigger in diameter than those of the 332. Also maybe because its fuselage is much longer than that of the 332.

Another example - a quite extreme one - is the comparison between an A310 and lets say the opposite an A346: Someone unfamiliar with the dimensions of those types would problably bet that the A310 is larger in diameter... Same with A318 and A321.

It's an amazing video. Loved it.

And I am really trying to like the look of the A350. Honestly. Trouble is, once you have seen the wings of the 787, the A350 seems to be 100% bus and 0% air

Does anyone else think the A350 looks a bit like an 757 when it is flying?

It just looks a very thin and long for a widebodied aircraft.
