A380 A6-EDR Hit By Catering Truck At LHR.

Mon Sep 30, 2013 9:59 am

Last night EK 6 op by A380 A6-EDR had an overnight delay at LHR after a catering truck thumped into it.
Did a replacement aircraft do this service this morning or was EDR not that badly damaged ? Any pics of the incident ?

Without a doubt the aircraft sustained enough damage to cancel the service. More than likely 1 of the 5 daily A380 services picked up the slack.

Another EK A380 was involved in an accident relating to a catering vehicle at YYZ two years ago. I believe it was A6-EDE which was out of service for about 2 weeks.

Somewhat off topic but relevant to this discussion: Are there special catering trucks that lift supplies to the second deck of the aircraft?

Yes, with the introduction of the A380 special high lift vehicles had to be designed and built.

Yes,as EK413 said, there are special high lift trucks for the A380. I happen to pass one every day heading into work after they have left our daily LH flight here at SFO. They have additional support for sitting up higher and the truck has a distinctive higher profile. But as one would suspect, they are restricted in high winds.

Indeed http://www.flightradar24.com/UAE7202 and it's being trailed by A6-EDA.

That would be quite a sight to see that convoy come through at 40k feet. Can we assume they both have passengers? I assume it isn't going back to DXB just to get fixed?

Speaking about sight, check this one: http://a.yfrog.com/img844/494/5kstbjbbrisoirmyfwucto.mp4

I don't think it has passengers onboard because I assume it doesn't fit in the schedule. It's also flying under a ferry flight call-sign (UAE7202) instead of a commercial call-sign (like UAE30).

Wow, I watched that about 2 dozen times. I thought the guy was taking the video from a car when I first saw it because it looks like a car windshield wiper. From that angle it really is hard to imagine sitting in that A380 and being relatively comfortable while it is cruising at 40k+ feet and close to 600 mph. I know I take it for granted how amazing of an engineering feat it is.

Thanks for sharing.

Highly doubt any passengers onboard as a flight appears to be a ferry based on the Flt no.
