Aerolineas Argentinas Orders 20 New Boeing 737

Wed Oct 23, 2013 2:50 pm

Did not see this being on the forum before.

Wonder why they did not order the 737MAX? Or are they picking up the 738s for cheap?

I'm glad to hear that Boeing is getting some sales from AR!

Most likely, AR is in deep financial trouble.

I can't access the article but seeing that there is no press release on the Boeing website I can only think that these "new" 737-800's will be second hand. Or, Boeing will send a press release later, in that case we are talking about brandnew aircraft.

You should think again.   Planes will be brand new.

Great news for AR.Some people may hate the CEO and AR, judging by one poster here especially, but he actually seems to be doing the right things.

How many 737NG slots are still available before the 737MAX starts delivering? Dumb question, but since the 737NG is still popular, is it possible Boeing could continue offing it after the MAX starts delivering..as a cheaper option? Kind of like what Apple does when it introduces a new iPhone.

A surprising order. Like most I thought AR were is deep financial doodoo. Glad to see some form of recovery. A great sized order too. I wouldn't be surprised to see top ups in the future.

I imagine their entry into Skyteam has really grown their market in South America.

It's not uncommon for there to be some overlap where both the older and newer generation planes are in production simultaneously. Boeing was still building 737 "Classics" into the early 2000s.

IIRC, Airbus said they plan to continuing offering the current A320 alongside the NEO.

I am not sure if the numbers are accurate but I found this article to be very interesting. There are certainly going to be a lot of new aircraft out there. The leasing guys' jobs are getting harder and harder. I imagine balancing these backlogs is difficult for the OEMs. They want to have just the right amount of availability so they can sell frames but not too many open spaces where they will have to discount. I have to imagine that the Next Gen is going to have to discount more and more with each year that passes but the NEO being sold out for a number of years does relieve some of the stress.

Since the article was written Boeing has sold ~320 more next gens and moved up MAX EIS by about three months (~126 less Next Gen positions to sell). That should take the number of slots to be about 680 based on the article's premise. They have sold about 430 Next Gens in the last year so 680 units sold before 2020 does not sound like it will be too difficult.

Not only is it not uncommon it is practically impossible to do otherwise. The demand is above 40+/month for each the A320 and the 737 and you cannot produce a new variant at those rates on day one as the supply chain would be an absolute mess and the FAL needs time to learn the new systems. So there will need to be overlap until production.

I believe they delivered a total of 2 in 2000. So technically you are correct.

Is this for a mix of 73G and 73Hs? In Argentina, is the 73G a better performer because of altitude etc., over the 73H?

AEP which is where most of AR´s operations take place is at sea level so I don´t think it´s an issue for them.

Would some of these 737s go for Austral?

How about flights to the deep south of the country? Could a 738 do EZE-USH with a full pax and cargo load nonstop? I know both are at sea level, but the distance is very long.
Next flights: MEX-LAX AM 738, LAX-PVG DL 77L, SHA-PEK CA 789, PEK-PVG CA A332, PVG-ORD MU 77W, ORD-MEX AM 738

I suppose that during certain times of the year, winter with snow storms or summer with thunderstorms, it might be. In the winter because the amount of fuel they may need to carry in case of their alternate being too far can be a lot and summer because of all the navigating around the storms. In those parts they can be huge and very tall. But I don´t see it as a problem otherwise. It´s 1,479 mi. so it´s within the range of the 738s.

What I was wondering is who on their right mind would finance these jets? I wonder if Boeing demanded more conservative deposit terms before accepting the orders.
