US Sending 752 To DFW

Wed Nov 13, 2013 2:39 pm

US is sending a 752 to DFW from PHL and CLT. It looks like it shys away from the PHL route but stays on it from CLT. Is this the result of the DOJ settlement, more cobus travel between the hubs? Whatever it is for it is good to see the 752 fling to more domestic cities for US!!!!

I'd guess most of the CoBus travel would be between Phoenix and Dallas and not so much CLT/PHL (although definitely some). Although the A321s hold more passengers than a 757 in US' configuration.

Ceremonial if true. There will be 1,000s of seats on these routes a year from now.

Not really related to the merger. US has been flying CLTDFW with a 752 for a couple of years now.

When?? Ive been non-reving back and forth between june of 2009 and now, and have only seen the 757 once from CLT once as a sub. This is back when they would fly the 170/175 and 190 from PHL. If it was years then it must have been more than 4-5 years ago.

Yeah I don't believe DFW has seen US 757 service for 10+ years unless I missed something.

Edit: Apparently I missed a lot because there is one enroute as we speak.

Yeah that is the first one that was not a sub in at least 4-5 years. They are it looks like daily from CLT now. Probably coming off the summer Europe season and the new 332's they have been getting, frees up some 57's for domestic routes. Very Cool to say the least.

US has had scheduled 757 service to DFW on and off for years. It's nothing new.

The US A321 has marginally fewer seats than the 752, and US has been sending those to DFW for years from all three hubs. Remember, US hovers in the #2 and #3 position at DFW - it's already a big outstation for them.

I doubt it, as it has been running for a few months now that I've noticed.

This was the first time I've noticed it. Not saying you're not correct, but I think it's been on and off, not consecutively.

I noticed this last week when one of my flight choices to PHL from CLT was on a 752. I went over to the gate to see it arrive (I ended up choosing a different flight, op by an a330   ) and was surprised to see it had come from DFW when I tracked it.

I want to say they first started flying them a couple of years back like in 2010. There are plenty of pictures available in other databases.

It's actually been happening for a while. I've flown US 752s into DFW, always from CLT, several dozen times over the past 3-4 years, and definitely as far back as 2010 when I had to fly to DFW a lot more than I do now. They tend not to be daily or even there on a year-round basis, but tend to turn up when fewer 757s are needed for European and Caribbean ops - such as this time of year. US 1773 has seen them some days of the week for the past three weeks, for instance.

I'm booked on one CLT-DFW in February. I, too, was surprised when booking to see a 757 on the route - I cannot remember the last time I saw a US 757 at DFW.

This isn't related to the merger at all, but rather because DFW is a very important market for US Airways in their own right. They are the second largest carrier at the airport (normally beating UA) and it is one of their larger outstations.

Not so. USAirways is a relatively large operator at DFW, but it is not #2 at the airport overall, but rather #4. As of September 2013, by enplanements, after AA (82.2% market share) it's Spirit (3.7%), then Delta (3.7%), then USAirways (3.0%), and then United (2.7%). The remaining 4.7% is made up of all the 15 remaining carriers - none of which individually has more than 0.8% share.

True. Although I think this has a lot to do with not just USAirways, but with how far United has come down at DFW in recent years. Comparing United today to United and Continental of just a few years ago, the capacity reduction is pretty astonishing. Markets like ORD, SFO, EWR and IAH that used to entirely or almost entirely mainline are now entirely or almost entirely RJs.

I am scheduled on a 752 PHX-DFW at the end of November. HP sent the 752 quite often before the merger.

Apparently the 752 has been used on the route before but I'm not the only one who is surprised to see it come up. It's awesome to see US 752 at more out stations!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

In addition to DFW, PIT/BWI/SAN/SNA/MCO all see 757 service.

With the exception of SNA, none of these are really news as they have seen 757 service pretty consistently.

It's been longer than that, US was sending them from PHX and CLT on a daily basis until sometime near the end of 2008 when they started retiring the non-ETOPS aircraft.

Quoting womenbeshopping (Reply 10):

There was a bit of a gap from 2008 until around the end of 2011 when they started back up from CLT. They tend to run daily during the fall only. PHX also likes to send them on a less-than-daily basis during certain periods of the year (not as subs).

That depends on which 757 fleet you're looking at. The East birds seat 176 while the West can do 190. The 321s now have 187 seats after the 4-seat mods.
