Help On Paris Orly

Wed Nov 01, 2000 10:30 am

When people or books refer to Paris Orly they are allways referring to Orly West or South. Are these two seperate airports or terminals? How close together are they? What are the long term plans for that airport now that all the airlines are moving into CDG. Does Orly get that much international widebody traffic anymore? Are there any 747's in there anymore?

hi
there are 2 terminals west and south at orly airport.the 2 terminals are separated by about 200 meters.a mini automatic train relates the 2 terminals.
it was decided that orly should become mainly a french or medium haul destinations'hub, still some airlines flying long-haul exotic destinations refuse to move to CDG (corsair);that's why you can see big time 747 bearing the corsair name( flying to west indies,Reunion island,Africa,LAX,Papeete...) but also AF 747 flying to french west indies....Iran air 747sp and Egyptair 777 are also regular visitors to orly;you can see lots of dc-10 too (air liberte and AOM) being slowly replace by A332 for AOM.
still orly future isn't clear at all, restrictions on noise and number of movements being very tight:the airport is surrounded by crowded paris suburbs contrarily to CDG
