FLIGHT SQ 006, TAIPEI-LOS ANGELES



The latest information from the crash site at 1300 today confirms that of the 159 passengers and 20 crew on board SQ 006, there were 48 who received outpatient treatment and 51 injured have been hospitalised. The remaining 80 included 68 fatalities and 12 whose condition is not yet known.

The attached manifest provides details of the nationalities of those who received outpatient treatment for minor injuries, those who were hospitalised for treatment, and fatalities or those where their status is unknown.

Of the 48 who received outpatient treatment, 35 were passengers, 10 were cabin crew and three were flight crew. Of the 51 who were hospitalised, 48 were passengers and three were crew.

On a special flight at 0630 hours this morning, SQ8102, 130 Singapore Airlines' support staff left Singapore for Taipei. This included 68 "buddies", SIA staff specially trained to support family members through such incidents. The flight could not land in Taipei due to weather conditions and was diverted to Hong Kong.

The scheduled flight from Singapore to Taipei at 1100 hours today, SQ988, has been delayed due to weather conditions in Taipei and has not departed Singapore as at 1300 hours. At this point in time, 48 family members are booked to travel on this flight, along with another 20 SIA support staff. The flight will depart as soon as the weather in Taipei clears.

SIA is currently planning a special flight from Los Angeles to Taipei tomorrow morning to take US families of passengers to the site.
