I would be vey interesting to hear you point of view on this subject. I wanted to know which of these 3 superior turboprop's came in as favourite amongst us.
Please tell wich one you prefer and dont be affraid to thrash the one you dont like and mention what you DO like about the one you have chose (any reason is a valid one). Also if comparing performancewise use similar planes(-8 400 with ATP and ATR 72). Please take all you can into consideration: Performance, Comfort, Looks, Safety, and personal feelings.
Thanks for your posts guys and gals.

p.s. My own opinion will follow on a seperate post.

I have flown ATR and Dash-8. I prefer the Dash-8 over the ATR because it offers larger passenger space and is more comfortable. It's quieter. In a Dash-8, you can watch the landing gear retract and extend, which is always fun to watch. Also, the Dash-8 has a safer perception because it's not involved in any wing icing accidents.

G'day All..
Sorry to add the F50 to the list, but it's kind of my favourite turboprop. l'm not sure if it too good at compeating with the others on the list, but nevertheless she's a Nifty 50, and it is quite a good aircraft all round. l guess l grew fond of her because l spent a large amount of time work on it during my engineering apprenticeship. l guess the other aircraft mentioned are great also, but the Nifty 50 is for me..

See yah...

Even though my decision is heavily influenced by my personal feelings for this plane, I will tell you why I chose the Dash8 over the others.

If you would compare the performance between the ATR 72 and the -400, the ATR lags far behind. And this for about the same amount of pax. The -400's MTOW is relatively higher the the ATR's can fly much farther and MUCH faster. The -300 which I fly can fly faster then the ATR 72. Of course the 72 is probably much cheaper then the -400, although I bet a lot can be reduced if you didn't include the NVS noise cancelling system on the -400. Furthermore the Dash8 has a more businesslike appearence then the ATR. Even the ATP which carries only 64 people has a 2,000 pound higher TOW the the ATR 72-500's.

That's the way I see it. Any comments are welcomed.

Sorry I left out the F50. Now the venerable Fokker is also in the game.

The F50 wins for me, all my early childhood memories of flying are in the F25/F50. I think it is the only airplane that comes close to the venerable DC3 for longevity ruggedness, and sentimental appeal.

The Dash 8, which is the only other in the group that I have flown is a comfortable plane and both the F50 and DHC8 have lading gear housed in the engine compartment so you see the gear retract and extend. Those who are aviation fanatics love to see the plane working, the flaps moving, the gear regracting, the props changing pitch, the oil leaking from the engine housing; you get the picture.
