RE: United Fleet Upgrade Status Part 19

Sat Mar 08, 2014 8:10 pm

Airbus WiFi Program nears completion:
After searching United.com, found only two 320s and two 319s without operational WiFi
Last two 320s in LCQ (N480UA & N495UA) expected to exit with WiFi

So will all 739 deliveries starting with 817 and going forward be delivered with WiFi already installed? And if that is the case will future 787-8/9 deliveries also have WiFi installed upon delivery to UA?

Looks like a few of the remaining OO CR2s are either in for paint or got paint (basing this on Flightaware): N909SW and N983SW...possibly N978SW.

Missed one for Paint: OO EMB-120 N292SW is in ROW as of 3/09. Appears that OO has no Gray aircraft left.

Quoting CALPSAFltSkeds (Reply 2):
EMB-120 SkyWest (14/44) 221SW, 229SW, 233SW-235SW, 237SW, 290SW-291SW [2], 294SW-295SW, 562SW-563SW [2], 568SW, 658CT - [16 in UA blue paint, 2 in gray paint and 11 extra in SkyWest House Paint].

N658CT was a temporary tail number for N298SW.

Also there has been some changes in the EMB-120 fleet because of aircraft going off lease but lines of flying staying the same. OO currently has 46 EMB-120's active but appears that maybe N564SW and N578SW might be getting ready for lease return or are in heavy maintenance.

N874AS appears to have been operating flights on behalf of United Express since late October of last year. However, the latest photos I can find of this aircraft are from last spring, when it was in US Airways Express markings. I would presume it was repainted in the meantime, but does it carry United Express or SkyWest colors?

"United recently completed Wi-Fi installation on it's 200th aircraft. This is an important milestone given the complexity of satellite Wi-Fi – the video shown here is a time lapse video showing the significant amount of work that goes into each installation.
United's Airbus A320s are complete, and the first Wi-Fi-equipped international Boeing 777 began flying in early March. United plans to have Wi-Fi installed on more than half the fleet by this summer, with installations largely complete by the end of 2014 and the following near-term milestones:
· United will complete Boeing 747s in May
· United will complete A319s in June (only one aircraft remains without Wi-Fi)
· In the next several months United will complete more than 50 737 installations, including all 737-900ERs that currently do not have Wi-Fi or entertainment.
United is currently sending more than 25,000 emails per day to customers notifying them if United plans to make Wi-Fi available on their scheduled flights.
To determine if a flight offers Wi-Fi, check Inflight Amenities under Flight Status for a specific flight on united.com or on United's mobile app, look for the Wi-Fi logo on the side of the plane or listen for an announcement by the flight crew. For the most up-to-date information on Wi-Fi availability, please visit www.united.com/Wi-Fi."

"United Airlines was one of the “Big Four” airlines in the United States that dominated commercial travel for much of the 20th century and has remained one of the major U.S. airlines. It was originally formed by United Aircraft and Transport Corporation, a partnership between Boeing Airplane Company and Pratt & Whitney. "

"United Aircraft and Transport Corporation split into its three parts, Boeing, United Aircraft, and United Air Lines."

Similarly, N118UA is the last 744 without WiFi.

Question for everyone on this thread:

Is the work being done on the aircraft only cosmetics (paint/interior/wifi) or are they also doing major work on the airframe and engines? I am just amazed at the fact that they can have planes out of service for such a long period of time, it is very expensive to have a $200 MMM 777 idle for such a long time. It would make more sense to me if the planes also gets a major overhaul so as to come back on line better than new from an airworthiness perspective.

With the introduction of Embraer E175s into service in May, does anyone have information on the Skywest and Mesa aircraft? Photos of the first in UAX Globe colors is on the Embraer website but cannot make out registration numbers or who it is going to. Here's another fleet type to track. Hope someone has some insights or inside information.

Acft # 818 & # 819 have MX ETRs of 25 Mar 14 .

" It's been a busy week for aircraft deliveries at United.

United added three planes to it's fleet - a Boeing 737-900ER and a Boeing 787-8 on Thursday and one 737-900ER on Friday. The 737s carry the aircraft numbers 818 and 819. The 787, which is United's 10th, is number 910, a CHS bird.

The 787 is the second of six United will receive this year. United is the North American launch customer of the lightweight, fuel-efficient widebody. And United plans to take delivery of it's first 787-9, which is a stretched version of the -8, in July, acft # 950.

So far this year, United has received nine 737s out of an expected 29. The 737s replace older, less-efficient domestic 757-200s.

Maintaining a modern, fuel-efficient fleet is key to United's plan to trim $1 billion from it's fuel costs annually by 2017. United plans to take delivery of one more 737-900ER and United's first Embraer E175 this month."

I'm pretty sure CALTECH was correct. The first 787-900 will be aircraft 3950. It's already in the unimatic system. Of course it won't be delivered until July.

Pardon if this was covered previous - we are no thread 19....

On the -800 the third coach lav is being pulled favor of economy plus?
Seems like they forgot what they figured out in the Continental days - the third lav is useful on the longer Central and South American legs - not to mention the cross country ones.
Wow. Disappointing.

Only 18 738s have the third lav. It was to be the new standard on all 738s before 9/11 happened. Now that the aircraft are coming due for D checks it was decided to end the sub-fleet.

RE: United Fleet Upgrade Status Part 19

Is 277 still the only 737-800 with Split Scimitar Winglets? Any details as to how quickly the existing 737-800 aircraft will be retrofitted?
Thanks!

OO took delivery of its first E175 yesterday. Test registration was PR-EED, actual registration is N103SY. Credit to Embraer for the photo.

SkyWest Airlines first E175.

Aircraft # 812 new United bird came through. Has the new SlimLine seats installed. Had a chance to sit in them. Very, very comfortable. Felt like a lot of cushion. Leather too. Nice looking interior. Co-pilot said much better than the Recaro seats in the Airbus. Like the new look. Has anyone flown Transcon on the new SlimLine seats ?

Looking at the image the E175 door appears a non-stair translating, yes?

Odd place to start fleet numbers.... 103?!?!?

Let's hope! That way, I can just plan my bookings around the 737 fleet. Eventually. When they get rid of the Koito park benches.
If Recaro is making the seats for the 'Bus refit, who is making the seats for the new 737s? If they're all Recaros, you'd expect a similar level of comfort/discomfort.

SkyWest typically uses the full tail number, sometimes the serial number, doesn't have a different fleet number like others. The second aircraft is going to be N105SY to make the number scheme even better!! Probably N101SY, N102SY and N104SY were already taken but most of the rest of the N1xxSY range is open.

Correct, no stairs, either air stairs or a jet bridge have to be used.

The SlimLine seats are made by BE Aerospace, supposedly based on their Pinnacle line. Recaro is a company based in Stuttgart Germany, BE Aerospace is a company based in Florida USA. I've heard good and bad about the Airbus seats, I'll check one out tomorrow. The SlimLines are good looking and comfortable.
