Assuming that it is 2:40 Subang time, it has been missing for almost 6 hours. Airliners don't disappear for 6 hours and then reappear.  Sad

If co-ordinates from FlightRadar24 are correct,

last contact was about 40km west of Kuala Terengganu.

This is really stressful news. Most likely a bad outcome, but hoping for the best still. They lost contact two hours into the flight. Where would the flight be? Over Thailand still?

This will only be the 4th loss of a 777 (in a worst case scenario) so I am quite suspicious of why it's missing...way too early to say anything now though

9M-MRO was involved in an accident in 2012. The wing hit the tail of a China Eastern A340 with the tip left hanging. Not serious but noteworthy.

From flight radar seems the aircraft was airborne for no more than an hour...

Anyone know weather in that area at time of last contact (per Flightradar)?

Flighradar24 data ,may not be accurate. If you look at same flight different day,
http://flightaware.com/live/flight/M.../20140306/1635Z/WMKK/ZBAA/tracklog

You can see coverage drops out pretty close to top of climb.

4th? One was the BA 777 at LHR; the other one is potentially this MH aircraft (I hope not). The 3rd one is the OZ at SFO. Which is the other one?

An unconfirmed report from a flight tracking website said the plane had plunged more than 200 metres and changed course in the last minute that it had transmitted data.

Where is this being sourced from?

This aircraft was only 11 years old.

If it has crashed after a sudden failure at altitude, (no record of a mayday) then the options are quite limited.

1. Structural failure, (reply 26).

2. Weather.

3. Bomb, (but who has a grudge against Malaysia).

This may be a bit cold, but I am very curious to see how MH responds to this. Following OZ's actions/communications following the crash last summer, I wonder how MH will handle this.
