Sat Nov 04, 2000 5:29 am

When united cancels ORD-HNL direct non-stop in Feb. will they replace the route with a new aircraft or will they cancel the route forever?

It all depends on if they can make money on it and if they feel they can they would choose the airplane that would make the most money probably be the 777. Maybe the cut this flight for the slot in ORD for a more profitable route.

I believe ATA is starting nonstop ORD-HNL service on L1011 in mid december, but only two days per week.....I doubt it would impact united....

United is discontinuing ORD-HNL because they are retiring the DC-10s. At this time there are no plans to operate another aircraft on the route because of crew rest issues. ORD-HNL would require a relief crew member on two-pilot aircraft such as the 767 and 777, but United does not have any provisions in its pilot contract for relief crew on domestic flights.

United is adding a third SFO-OGG flight using alternating 777 and 757, which they believe will make up for the loss of capacity to Hawaii.
