Tarom To Sell One Of It's A318's

Tue Mar 25, 2014 7:00 pm

Sorry, only in Romanian. Looks like Tarom (RO) will sell one of it's A318 to the Romanian Government. They did previously mentioned that they want to standardize the fleet, I wonder if this is part of that and if it means that a B737NG order is coming.

I´m surprised it took so long for them to get rid of it. Very difficult to make money with that assett.

Whats Taroms plans for its future fleet? I am sure the -300s will be retired soon, so will they order more Airbus or Boeing A/C?

They are replacing A310/B737/A318 by A330/A321/320/319 and 72/42-600

When is this going to happen?

That seems like a huge capacity increase. Where does their A310 and future A330 fly to? Are they planning any new routes?
Next flight: AMS - TLV - AMS

I doubt the A330 very much. Very much.

I don't doubt the ATRs (the 42s are getting old) or new A320-series craft, but where is the source for this?

RO's website states a decision hasn't been reached.

Personally I think C-series is the solution, along with more ATRs.

Would make a good stablemate for this...    ...

Hope they'd give the A318 a nice, new livery...    ...

Some pearls from the article translated:

The 738 [...] has no business class, so it will be replaced by an A321 (implying it will be an A321 because it has no business class... Err.... What?). My comment: Furthermore, a single class A321 would have >200 seats... In fact, I think A321s are the most likely replacement of the A310s.

It also says the A310s *may* be traded for A330s.

Basically, they're just assuming.

As far as I know, their 313 only operates for the government, but I might be mistaken....

Both YR-LCA and YR-LCB remain on Taroms books.

Both have been deployed on their Middle Eastern flights to Tel Aviv and Dubai iin the northern winter timetable.

However

That said right now YR-LCA is on state operations and has been to Amsterdam for the Nuclear Security Summit whilst YR-LCB appears to be on mx at Otopensi (sorry Henri Coanda !)

Their A-310 flies to Brussels each Friday afternoon to allow romanian working for EEC to come back home.
A-310 is not needed other days because most of these pax fly on Sunday evening or Monday morning to go back to Brussels and are working in week days..

They used to fly the 310 to TLV too on Thursdays. Not sure if that's still the case.

Not anymore; that ended about a year ago. And that was 1 out of 2 frames only.

Agree - the CSeries seems the perfect fit capacity-wise. It is also the natural replacement for the 737Classic. 737NG may be OK for a handful of routes but overkill for others.

Well, people have been saying PEK 2x weekly... for the past few months. But they've been saying JFK 2x weekly since 2006 and it still hasn't happened, so...

Well, that livery doesn't exist anymore. It would be more of a replacement than a stable mate.

Oh man...

Okay, where do I begin? First and foremost, Tarom will never, ever, ever buy wide body planes. They will go bankrupt before that happens. As of now, Tarom has a really bizzare fleet for its small size. They have what? 24 planes, with a mix of ATR42/72, 733 and 737NGs then the A318 & A310... If they do anything, it'll be a standard fleet. They can't compete with the giants of Europe and they can't compete with the likes of Wizzair. Sadly, I see Tarom go the way of Malev...

Wizzair will probably be the only airline with bases in Romania. I don't even have much hope for Blue Air... It's either LCCs for the local Romanians going to and from Western Europe or legacy carriers that offer real perks / connections to the world...

Also, don't ever believe anything the Romanian press reports. I gave an interview for a Romanian TV station and they "quoted" me as having 20 years of flight experience... That means I started flying commercially at the age of 12... faaaak!!!

They can't get their facts right even if you right it out in BOLD LETTERS...
