Japan Transocean Air Orders 12 737s

Thu Mar 27, 2014 4:55 pm

Okinawa based JAL Group airline Japan Transocean Air (JTA) has selected the Boeing 737-800 to commence replacing its 737-400 fleet with an order for 12-aircraft with deliveries begining in 2016.

JTA says the order offers it flexibility to switch future deliveries to the 737MAX family of airplanes.

I guess in due time we can expect further NG or MAX orders from JTA.

Why does this airline operate separately from JAL, or at least JAL Express?

Because it is partially owned by the Okinawa Prefecture government and other Okinawan businesses/entities . JAL only owns 51% of JTA.
