AA New 777 Routes?

Sun Nov 05, 2000 2:29 am

Hi!! American Airlines will take delivery of about another 14 777s in the next year and I was wondering on what routes they will fly them. I know they will switch to a 777 on JFK-EZE or GRU in Feb and they will start SJC-TPE on 1Apr01, but that only accounts for about four of these 14 777s. Will they fly 777s to CDG an FRA? The777Man

I would imagine that you could see the 777 on more LHR or LGW routes (the 2nd flight from DFW to LGW will be converted to 777) I would also expect to see the 777 moving into the transcon market at some point -- LAX - JFK/LGA. Depending on loads, you may see it on CDG, or other European destinations. And yes, like you said, more GRU and EZE flights.

Any chance of a new route to HKG? Would be nice to see them there.

Matt D,
AA still has a few MD-11s hanging around. Don't know when they'll be phased out. They're quite new, oldest one's are only around 10 years old.

AFAIK, all new delivered 777s(with the F-suite) are going to Atlantic markets, and older 777s, with different configurations will then be shifted out to new Pacific ops.

What new Pacific ops? I think AA should serve HKG. Anyone know for sure?

I would love to see AA fly a HKG route with the 777. It would have to be west coast, (i.e. LAX, SJC) until they order and recieve the 777-200 LR, but it could also be ORD-HKG I would think as well. However, with severe load restrictions. Didn't AA fly this one time to test the route out? I would also like to see an ORD/JFK-Beijing route. The new Taipei route from SJC will be a winner for AA. Do any of you know how crowded Chang Kai Shek is? (Sp.??) Would it be possible for AA to do some Asian expansion through TPE to possibly Singapore, Bangkok, or Kuala Lumpur? Narita is pretty much out of the question as far as expasion goes. Hell, doesn't NWA sometimes not have gates? When I flew AA777 DFW-NRT last year, there were about 4 NWA 747's sitting out on the tarmac with stairs on the side of them, like they were loaded and unloaded from the tarmac.

I would assume that the DFW/ORD-CDG will be upgraded to a 777 soon as well. AA should also consider a 777 ORD-AMS flight. At this point in time, I don't think AA serves AMS. Correct me if I'm wrong.

It would be nice to see AA develope into the middle east some with their 777's from ORD. ORD-TLV/Dubai maybe being one of the first. Maybe an ORD-BOM/DEL flight would be in order to compete with United's flights.

South Africa would add some color as well. Would a MIA-JNB 777LR flight be profit maker? It could connect the southern tip of Africa with the rest of the US through AA's domestic route structure. What are the loads like on SAA's JNB-ATL-JFK flights? AA could do a JNB-MIA-DFW/LAX/JFK flight. Not all of them of course, but just connect to one of those third cities after Miami.

HKG is doubtfull with their alliance with CX but I bet AA will fly to HKG from a market CX doesn't serve in North America. I would like to see more expansion out of their biggest hubs(JFK,MIA,ORD,DFW, maybe BOS) maybe an ORD-TLV,ORD-KIX, and more european expansion to AMS,DUB,SNN and JFK-KIX,JFK-NRT,JFK-TLV and JFK flights to the middle east to connect with partner Gulf Air. I would also like to see more Asian flights especially out of LAX-SEL,NRT,KIX,HKG,TPE, and SYD from DFW I would like to see AMS,SEL and FCO flights. I think overall, American needs to start focusing in Asia and the middle east, there are markets in those places and I have a feeling that as their terminal at JFK opens, a lot of flights to the middle east will be added.
new destinations(my prediction)
JNB
TLV
SEL
HKG
SYD
AMS aswell as others, it is clear that American wants to expand their route network and that they have a whole plan with their 777's.
cheers,

Northwest actually has a great number of gates at Narita, taking up practically an entire satellite of Terminal 1. It is just that there are too many planes for them! This is the case with United as well. Both NW and UA often use remote parking spots near T1 for deplaning. Hopefully this situation will improve once the satellite of Terminal 1 which is currently undergoing renovation reopens soon.

As far as AA in Asia is concerned, I would expect first and foremost new routes to HK and Taipei, and after that possibly an expansion in Japan and maybe opening something to Australia. However, AA and QF seem to be content with AA taking over most if not all feeder routes in the U.S. to and from LAX.
I would like to see AA replace some 767s with 777s on European routes, especially ORD-CDG.

Where does AA fly their 777s to/from LAX? I see them there every now and then and I wondered where they were going.

Hi alexinwa!! You seem to have covered all the current routes for AA 777s. They will add JFK-EZE on 31Jan01 and SJC-TPE on 1Apr01. I think they will start a ORD-SEL flight that could work well with Asiana as a codeshare flight. There's a open-sky agreement between US and Korea so there's no problem to start this flight. I also think that ORD-HKG will come very soon (codeshare with CX possible) and perhaps also JFK-TLV. I think they may also try JFK-NRT and JFK-KIX. JL flies ORD-KIX so I don't think AA will start that route. But I think AA may extend the TPE route to SIN. The aircraft have to overnight either in TPE or somewhere else, so why not squeeze out a few more hours of the plane before th nightrest. I also see AA fly 777 on DFW-FRA, ORD/DFW-CDG and DFW-SCL served by 777s. With all 777s on order, AA will have 46 777s in a little over a year from now. I don't really see AA going to SYD with current aircraft. Their codeshare with QF seems to work very well and they may get 777-200LR to fly MIA-JNB. That's always as many as 767-300ER (48). Thanks for all your input. Anyone with inside info     The777Man

As far as inside info, I have heard rumors, but I can't back it up, that AA will order the 77-300LR. I was on a flight from DFW-BOS sitting next to a flight attendant for AA going to Boston. He was telling me that He had been hearing that it might happen sometime soon. Again, I can't back that up, but I could see it totally happening for routes like DFW-LGW, ORD-LHR and such. But, my dream would be a 744 in AA C/S. Never gonna happen though till I'm CEO.

I hope and think that they may get the 777-200LR also. Then they could add JNB from JFK and MIA like UAL747 said earlier. I also think they could start DFW-SYD, DFW-SIN and ORD-DEL. We'll see what happens and I'm looking forward to seeing AA 777s on more routes. The777Man

I doubt we'll see transcon 777s anytime in the near future on AA. There is simply no reason. There are at least 10 scheduled 767 flights each day, each direction JFK-LAX. It is rare that at least one isnt cancelled, except for holidays, because there just isnt that much demand.
