Don't think that I supported the Onyx bid, for it intended to do the exact same that AC ended up doing, but it was ruled that the bid was unsuccessful due to federal regulations. Following that, AC could've let CP die a silent death, but no, they insisted on buying out its shares.
As for seat pitch, I've flown AC various times, and the seats were not anywhere near 38 inches apart, like AA now is. Of course, maybe you've flown on a different a/c; I've only been on the 767, 747 and A320, and didn't find too different from BA, AF, DL or BM.
As for your friends flight from LAX to YYZ, have you taken a good look at the schedules? Out of five flights a day, two are with the 767, and one of those is the red eye. Just a thought to consider, as the other flights are with A320s.
