I have not heard anything about aviation from either candidate so it wouldn't be fair for me to comment.

I think that if Bush wins, the chances of US/UA going through goes up unless the DOJ can block it before inauguration.

I agree with D L X ... Gore will not support the merger of UA/US... Bush, on the other hand, probably would. I think you could probably see an extensive amount of support for airport/aviation/FAA expansion if Gore wins.

Not to be ugly, but I doubt that he would come to Austin all that much. He would most likely fly into Waco or the Ft. Hood area... since that is where his ranch is. I don't think he'd have a whole lot of business in Austin if he was no longer the governor.

The NWA pilots organization officially endorsed Gore..but my dad and i both voted for Bush. I think whoever will be better for the economy will be better for the airlines..which is very very very crucial for me since i will be getting on with the airlines during this term. My vote goes for Bush.

I usually try to stay out of the political type discussions and I don't know enough about either candidate's stand on aviation to be able to predict the future, but it is kind of interesting to look at the past.

The last time a Bush was in the White House (Jan. 1989 to Jan. 1993) Pan Am and Eastern filed for bankruptcy and are no longer with us. TWA and America West had also filed for bankruptcy and Continental filed for bankruptcy the second time (The first being during the Reagan years.) We're not talking KIWI or Air South or Nations Air, we're talking 5 MAJOR airlines. I just hope history doesn't repeat itself anytime soon.

Globalization

Wed Nov 08, 2000 4:21 pm

The chance of international airline globalization increases with Bush in office. This may be terrific news for consumers, but for airline folk it is terrible news.
Imagine what will happen to airlines such as AA, UA, DL and even SWA if international carriers like BA are allowed to fly inter-American routes. Globalization will indeed make air travel more affordable - but at airline employees' own expense.
My vote goes to Gore, although I disagree with many of his other political beliefs.

I am not familiar with either candidate so perhaps i should just keep silent. However I think the candidate that flies with comercial carriers the most and actually pays for his seat will do the most good. The likleyhood of that hapening however is minimal.
Timobear may however be closer to the mark.

Bush supports this, and it is the single reason he did not get my vote, (not that it mattered). Another Frank Lorenzo/Eastern Air incident seems more likely with him in office as well.

If you want to know the answers, go to
select transportation
for the industry and you'll see that the major
airlines have supported $$$ Republicans moreso
than Democrats. Just thought that might be
of interest to you.

True,

But the airports around those areas can't handle a 747, Ft. Hood can, but not Waco or Temple. He would most likely fly into Austin and drive to whatever smaller city.

But anyway it will mean more Air Force One flights into Texas!
