Lounges In Airliners

Thu Nov 09, 2000 4:11 pm

Have any of you ever flown an a plane with a lounge? I've seen plans of Braniff's 747 Sky Place and they had a couple of lounges for Coach passengers. Also, has anyone been in an L-1011 with the old PSA lougne (lounge on the lower deck).

I flew in an Eastern Airlines Lockheed L-188 Electra from BOS-LGA in 1968 that still had a first class lounge at the rear. Propliners usually had their first class seating and lounges in the aft section since noise and vibration were less in this area.

This plane was destined to play out its life with Eastern as a backup for the Air Shuttle service between BOS-LGA-DCA and would soon have it's entire interior and lounge removed and new revenue seats installed. The aircraft I flew on that day had just come up to the northeast from Florida and had a really nice interior.

This flight gave me a taste of what it must have been like back in the "good old days" in the post WWII era.
