I live in Western Monmouth county and there are days when EWR bound aircraft seem extremely close to the ground,Continental Dc-10s,El Al 747s and the Luftansa 747 from Frankfurt are often flying right over my house.
They come in over land from the North pass EWR to the West and then make a turn first to the East and then to the North following the Parkway over the Raritan to the Turnpike, they fly right over highways and industrial areas whenever possible to avoid bothering local residents.
They will sometimes go as far South as Upper Freehold township where there is some sort of marker or directional aide before swinging around for the approach into EWR.
They have to avoid Southern Monmouth,Ocean and Burlington Counties because thats restricted Military airspace for Maguire,Lakehurst, and Willow Grove NAS.
I go to school at Monmouth and when Im down at the shore I notice lots of wide bodies like American 767s come in over the Ocean from the East and right above the Long Branch area make sharp right turns to the North, they follow the Jersey Shore across Sandy Hook and over the Eastern part of NY harbor (East of Staten Island and the Varrazzano) then head right into JFK.
I spent the Summer a couple of years ago at Twin lights in the Highlands right above Sandy Hook where you can actually see JFK,and you can catch all sorts of low flying aircraft heading for JFK there.Once while I was driving in Sea Bright the Concord flew very low right over the beach on it's approach into JFK to the North.
JFK traffic flies over Eastern Monmouth county right over the beach for approaches into JFK while EWR aircraft enter the approach patterns in Western Monmouth County and follow it North through Middlesex,Union and Essex County.
