What Are Bulgarians Doing In Wintertime?

Mon Nov 13, 2000 11:38 pm

Hi,
I wonder if you can tell me what the big Bulgarian fleet of Tu-154s is doing when there are no tourists to be flown to the Black Sea. I know a lot of the Balkan aircraft are only leased for the summer season, but what about Air VIA?

Bulgaria is very big for skiing in the winter so
there are quite a few charters for skiiers.Bulgaria is
very cheap for skiing and also the resorts are quite
well developed

Yes, Bulgaria is very lucky to have the whole year covered in terms of tourism.

In summer they are to Varna and Bourgas, and in winter they fly to Plovdiv. That is such a great airport for taking pics. Very little security and nearly unrestricted ramp access.

Hemus and VIA are going to do well this year, since Balkan are crippled by their lease payments on new planes. Not to mention the new owners who seem to be intent on destroying the airline...
