SIA's New Corporate Image

Tue Nov 14, 2000 9:42 pm

Another rumour that I have heard is that SIA will be totally revamping it's corporate image including a new livery. Is this true? With the demise of 9V-SPK, the tropical twist livery (one of my favourite) is all but gone. What I always thought SIA should do to revamp their livery cheaply was adopt the very nice 1997 50th anniversery livery with the gold waves. Anyone heard any more?

Hi there!

At the moment, I believe that SIA are stripping down 9V-SPL (the other Tropical Megatop), but I cannot confirm this as yet.

Yes, there has been talk direct from the Board Rooms of SIA at Changi of a new image in the near future, but the SIA colours and logo are so well worldly recognised, that this is taking very careful consideration, as I'm sure you can imagine.

Hope this helps!

Hi all

They should wait until the delivery of their first A3XX to unveil a new livery.

They need to keep the 'bird' logo anyway.

I think that a great improvement, without loosing the easaly pointed identity, would be the 50 years Jubilee livery. I think that that would be a great thing, tooking off the stripe inserting the gold stripeson the fuselage. I think that that would be a great compromise, new without loosing the old, what do you think?

Do not think that the stripes are a better replacement....if the lines are to be replaced it must be by something a little bolder than those stripes.

Krisworld777, i thought exactly the same that SQs 50th anniversary scheme suited them more then the present rigid one, i find it outdated and feel they need a new look, and Airsnaps the logo is enough to help people know its still singapore airlines, infact i really like the tropical skies scheme its unique why dont they just adopt this

Hi again!

The 'Tropical Megatop' scheme is very expensive to apply to all the aircraft - it cost SIA around 2 million US Dollars in all types of costs to take two of their B744's out of the fleet for 2 weeks each in order to paint them up.

It's a great idea and would look fantastic on a B772 or A3XX but it's just not practical enough.

We'll leave it up to the board room at Changi to decide what's best! They seem to be making all the correct decisions so far - "now more then ever a great way to fly" - it sure is!

Ohhhh. I don't know. I love their new livery and what if they get it wrong. Ohhh. The A3XX would be a good start in a bout 5 years time. Ohhh. I dunno. What are they gonna do.

Poor SIA. I feel for them.

I agree with all of you who favor the 50th avnniversary design as a permanent replacement for the fleet. When I first saw it, on a 777, I immediately thought, this should be their livery. It is very very elegant and less austere than the current blue and gold stripes.

And although would be further moving toward the "all white fuselage" trend that is becoming omnipresent these days, atleast it looks nice!

Like I said previously in this forum, after the 9V-SPK crash, the tropical livery would be phased out very quickly.

Asians are very superstitious. So when 9V-SPK crashed, I had a hunch that 9V-SPL would revert back to original scheme.

I also vote for the 50th anniversary look. I never liked the pure white fuselage.

Heh Alvin, you want me to email my uncle?

The present livery has been around since 1987 and I really think it is time for a much-needed change! Maybe the 50th Anniversary colours would be nice, but when they reach their 60th Anniversary I wonder what would happen

heres another suggestion;

FULL GOLD FUSELAGE WITH GOLD ENGINES, SAME NAVY BLUE TAIL WITH GOLDEN BIRD LOGO BUT NO ORANGE VERTICAL STIPE, PART OF THE BLUE TAIL COMING ONTO THE FUSELAGE LIKE IN THE DELTA AIRLINES SCHEME, BOLDER 'SINGAPORE' TITLE MINUS THE WORD 'AIRLINES' JUST BELOW THE UPPER DECK AND A THIN NAVY BLUE CHEAT LINE RUNNING RIGHT BELOW THE WINDOWS AND ENDING IN POINTS AT THE FRONT AND REAR EXITS, SOMETHING LIKE AUSTRIAN AIRLINES STRIPE

p.s should i mail them.

I would like to comment on airmale's suggestion of

"FULL GOLD FUSELAGE WITH GOLD ENGINES, SAME NAVY BLUE TAIL WITH GOLDEN BIRD LOGO BUT NO ORANGE VERTICAL STIPE, PART OF THE BLUE TAIL COMING ONTO THE FUSELAGE LIKE IN THE DELTA AIRLINES SCHEME, BOLDER 'SINGAPORE' TITLE MINUS THE WORD 'AIRLINES' JUST BELOW THE UPPER DECK AND A THIN NAVY BLUE CHEAT LINE RUNNING RIGHT BELOW THE WINDOWS AND ENDING IN POINTS AT THE FRONT AND REAR EXITS"

I think that so much gold on the aircraft may look a little too much and be extremely time consuming and expensive to apply. I like what Emirates recently did. They have made the titles "Emirates" about 3 times the size and downsized the arobic. It looks very good. They have also changed their font for the logo and looks a lot better. Red is now the colour of the logo on print as I guess it is cheaper. Yes, I would like to see a photo of the AU plane.
Cheers guys!

1)The female uniform CANNOT be changed!!! But the male ones definitely need an update. One thing that may definitely be changing is the batik slip-ons. Surveys on a few options have already been circulating amongst cabin crew. Basically, a shoe that co-ordinates well with the "kebaya" is the proposed replacement.

2)For the cabins, they still need to upgrade the Jubilee 777s and Celestar 340s to the Rainbow Megatop branding, even though it was not planned. Somewhere along the line, a regular First Class passenger on a 777/340 route is going to get SO fed up that (s)he never gets a SkySuite.

I totally agree with you Marchell. SIA are going about the 777s and A340s a bit wrongly.

But while I was relieving my self in the toilet a thought struck me. Wouldn't it cost loads of money to paint the planes, then take them out of service and maybe having to cancel flights (the last one maybe not but could happen).

It would cost them millions. But I don't mind.

It has been suggested that SIA install SkySuites on 777s and A340s. It has been noted that SIA will be phasing out A340 in favour of new 777-200ER's although SIA has an order for the A340-500. I agree, it makes me angry that it is the same price to fly to the same diestination on a 747 as it is to an A340. The product is not compatible and they should do something about it. Why does SIA not drop First Class on short haul flights because I do not think there is really a huge demand. Cheers!

I really doubt that SQ will want to get a new livery.

The reason is simple: Singapore is a pretty conservative country. Why would they want to change a livery that has worked for them all these years? You do remember how much money UA spent to implement the "Stealth" scheme used on their current fleet, don't you? After all, AA's current livery has been around since the late 1960's and there's no pressing need to change it yet.

I think SQ--being a Star Alliance member--may paint one of the first A3XX's to be delivered to that airline in the Star Alliance "Logo Jet" scheme. It'll sure stand out in a B-I-G way, that's to be sure.
