Northwest Airlines New Livery

Wed Nov 15, 2000 12:11 am

Well I have to say it's alot better than the old one. Painted All silver except for the tail, which is red, with a wavy bottom (it's not red all the way down the tail) wavy red tops on the engine nacelles, and a wavy red line that starts at the nose of the aircraft and works it's way back.

the NWA logo is still on the tail in white and the word NORTHWEST is on the fuselage, I think it was up on the upper deck of the 747-400, in red, I can't remember now exactly where.....it may also have been lower on the body.

What are you talking about?
I´ve heard nothing so far about NW changing its livery that in my opinion is one of the very best around. But what say doesn´t seem to be bad too.

Are they really changing, and were did you see it?

You probably haven't heard about it yet becuase it's not been announced and maybe they won't go through with it. I happened to be in the empolyee cafeteria of the Advertising agency that handles NWA. Sitting on one of the tables in preperation for a meeting was the NWA B744 model with the new livery, along with some new print ads.....

I think you've seen the old fuselage of NW; the way you describe it reminds of that one. But nothing has been stated so far about NW introducing a new logo (not even on nwa.com). Surf: did you see that plane you're describing live or did you see a picture?

No NWA has never used this livery, and what I saw was a B744 model, you know one of those big models that you see sitting travel agency windows. This is a brand new livery. You just haven't heard about it or seen it yet.

It's very likely that Surf is a NW GUY. heeeheee, well, let's go back to the livery thing. I just know that there is an a/c called the World Plane N670US. That'z it. So Surf you've gotta keep us posted for the lastest news about NWA since you are working...there. ^_^ Just another question, is there any NWA 744 run by GE engines? plz drop a line.

This may be what it's based on. It's an experimental, one-off scheme from 1995 but it looks kind of nice. To tell you the truth, I will miss the current NWA scheme.

That is, if all this is true!

I personally don't think that NW needs a new livery, but if the new one's good, then...

Obviously Surf doesn't work for NW, unless he likes to bash his own company (highly unlikely), just check out "NW Crappy Meal Service" by Surf, a hotly contested thread from a few weeks back.

I haven't heard a thing about it, but from what Surf said, it seems like it's a fleet-wide thing.

Keep us posted!

NWA Man

P.S...Surf- When you say silver, do you mean silver like it is now, silver like American, or silver like Virgin? Thanks.

That picture is only similar in that the body is either gray or silver and the tail is red, and the Northwest name is on the body is red. This new livery has the wavy "cheat" line and the wavy red tail and the wavy red on the engines. The big red logo in the picture is not part of the new livery.

And yes, this is true, I saw the model up close before the meeting took place. I was getting some breakfast and walked right up to it, looked it over. But like I said, this could just be the Ad Agencies proposal to NWA. Who knows if it every actually makes it onto the planes.

Last I heard from my brother (who works there) NW was doing a campaign with them, possible tie-in, perhaps?

It sounds worse than Delta if the rumors are true.

"Wavy?" I'm not getting a good image of that in my mind.

No this is nothing like Delta, it's all one solid color and the wavy on the tail is just the bottom of the solid red color. It's very nice I think. But unless it goes official, all I can do is give you a description. *shrug* And this is not a rumor!!!!! The model has been painted! It's here in this building! I was one foot away from it!

P.S. Branvan you forgot the G in Fallon McElligot.

NWA Man, just because someone talks down about a company doesn't mean they don't work for them. Where I work, we talk down about our employer all the time. Just because they are your employer doesn't mean they are the best, if they have crappy food, they have crappy food.

You had to see the thread... Surf slammed NW's food and service, and it was not in the tone of an employee, even a disgruntled one. I would be shocked if Surf worked for Northwest.

Surf said:
"Well, I guess I should be lucky I got a meal at all..."

"It was served on a freaking Chinet paper plate... I guess the "first class" passengers got the plastic dinner ware...the utensils were plastic and looked like they came from Kentucky Fried Chicken."

"L-A-M-E"

Still not convinced that Surf doesn't work for NW? How about these tidbits?

Surf said:
"cause I have the privelege of non-revving on United"

"this was a trip for work where the television Network paid for the tickets..."

Hmmm... I think I was right  .

I wasn't disagreeing with you, just stating that Surf didn't work for NW. You make a good point, as many people talk down about their company (airline), especially those in labor disputes. However, I rarely see someone slam their company (esp. airline) on this website, and I would have been surprised if Surf did actually work for the airline.

Sammy, if you are using the pc in the office, better not say any bad things about your company and bosses. You know what, there are many companies monitor their subordinates email and what they say on the net. Better be careful. This is just a little comment for the sake of your career. =)

RE: The DC-9 Pic

Thu Nov 16, 2000 4:16 am

If the livery on the DC-9 posted by 777gk is the new livery for the whole NWA fleet, then it would be an horrible mistake!!! Personally I don't really like the so-called new livery on that DC-9. I can't see there is any new innovation on that livery. Moreover, NWA's current livery is good enough. I don't think there is a need to change the livery right now. NWA's current livery looks special as many other airlines trying to put some pictures and wavy lines on their planes. I especially like the white bottom of NWA fleet. It just looks so special, especially on 747-451.

I like both the old & new livery, but I think 1 background is better. This what I see is great, Grey background, and the Red lettering on top of it, and red Tail.....

The lettering should be Blue !!!

Red Panda, don't worry, I don't slam my company through their email, and it really would make no difference if I did, since I would hardly be alone. It's no small company, and if they monitored some stuff in my emails, I would have been fired a long time ago   Either way, I don't "slam" it really, we just make fun is all, I love working for them (an no, I'm not at work right now) Anyhow, thank you for the advice, appreciated.

Unfortunately I can't provide any pictures, I mean If I had been caught taking a picture of that model that would be trouble in the making! Anyway I was in that cafeteria again and the model (of course) is now gone, it was just there for the meeting that day. So you will all have to wait and see if NWA decides to go through with it. I personally hope they do. I really liked it and I thought it was simple and yet pretty at the same time.

I heard about this new livery a few months ago. Maybe they've changed it since then, though. I heard Silver top (brushed aluminum) and white or lightgray bottom separated by red stripe. The tail will stay red (as it has been since NW's beginning) and the very bottom of the tail will have some sort of wavy design which will be carried over to the engine cowlings.

It's definitely been changed since then. I described it exactly as it appeared on the model. Very simple design.
