Who Put Sanford On The Airline Route Map?

Wed Nov 15, 2000 1:52 am

Up until the early 1990's, many had not heard of Sanford Regional Airport in Central Florida. I remember an airline called SkyBus started flying into there and it seemed to get more attention. What other carriers have flown there and I wonder if it will become a major alternate to Orlando.

British charter airlines such as Airtours, Air 2000, Monarch all operate into Sanford using 767s and 330s. The airline who i think you are thinking of is Laker with DC10s operating from the UK to Sanford.
When you hear the noise of the Tartan Army Boys, we'll be coming down the road!

Pan Am

Pan Am flies scheduled service out of Sanford. There is adequate parking close to the terminal and no long delays. I doubt seriously that it will ever become a more serious contender.

We'll be operating an initial twice weekly service into SFB from next spring from Prestwick. Having visited Sanford, I have been most impressed with it and the willingness of its management (UK airports group TBI) to attract airlines in. MCO has a huge head start, but SFB is doing a great job of catching up!
